About Brutalody

There's a savage, yet beautiful beast roaming Texas... BRUTALODY (broo-tal-uh-dee), an Epic American Heavy Metal band, was formed in Spring 2013 from the ashes of the Denton, TX based metal band Descendant, and have quickly carved out their own unique niche in the Dallas/Ft. Worth Area and beyond. The band has released their debut EP "The Usurper" to much acclaim (brutalody.bigcartel.com) and the band is currently recording more music for an album release this year! From an article on tristusscriptor.weebly.com: I've had a special pre-screening of two upcoming tracks by the underground's finest, Brutalody. Being a multifaceted fan of all forms of metal - these experts make me not have to chose for the wonderful moments of their music in my phones. My mind should be confused by the many aspects bombarding my fanatical ears, yet it just isn't so. These guys can work in power metal, melodic death, progressive-structures, and modern-nostalgia in the same track. And from what is coming from them, I can say anyone with a love for metal will be delighted by this energetic brutality and melody combined. Those lucky enough to have discovered the band are already familiar with the impressive 3-songer, The Usurper (as reviewed in this very publication HERE), which already had me ready for more as soon as the 3rd song ended. Their progressive-level instrumental prowess doesn't come off as "wanky", yet impresses just as well - if not more - than your typical Dream Theater imitators or Cynic freaks. It's not just-for-the-sake-of-it. These guys just have chops, let them flow, and mesh with one another extremely well. Solos and intricate rhythms seem as natural as a severe storm that creeps upon an awaiting small town; it's there and it's going to do it's thing, destuctive or no. It just happens to blow the roof back ON my roof. I know I'm not the first, nor will be the last to bear that kind of sentiment. Vocally and lyrically, the presentation is a bit more eccentric and demanding than even it's complex backdrop, in as ear-friendly a way as can be desired. Frontman Andrew Vasa has the death metal growls, the black metal-ish/Gothenburg-esque screams, and the valiant power metal melodic expression that usually doesn't accompany the other styles in bands that do such extreme music. But, just as the other intense aspects of Brutalody's arsenal, his voice(s) feel as natural as any emotive vocalist that is limited to just one style. It's very refreshing to hear a band be as deathy, as melodic, and as classic as these guys do simultaneously, both vocally and instrumentally. I normally do articles on more than one focus, or at least a more generalized subject matter. These guys have impressed me so much that I have felt the need to do this preliminary body of text; prior even, to my impending review of their next output. So, focused I am...and color me eager. Reviewer Kyle McGinn/deadrhetoric.com says: "Three tracks of heavy death metal riffing and bellowing roars amidst some hyper-catchy leadwork and melodies a la older In Flames and Soilwork. There are even a few clean vocals that are more power metal-esque (as opposed to the more “commercial” variety) and a nice acoustic passage in “Sonic Lust” to help round things out."
