SuperJane rocked America and the global dance music community when they became the country's first all female DJ collective. Gracing the cover of XLR8R magazine was one highlight, but features in Spin, Urb, Revolution and DMA were just as much a symbol of the power of these four women collectively. Although female DJ's were not unheard of, the way these women broke the barriers out there for press, notoriety, and respect for their (genderless) skills, seemed to initiate a revolution for the female DJ that can be directly linked to their progress. Many women (and men) credit SuperJane as a chief inspiration for becoming DJ's. Founded in 1997 by Dayhota, Colette, Heather & Lady D, the women strived to become the best DJ's--not only the best "female" DJ's--and their reputations for fun, funky and fulfilling sets would soon be cemented in Chicago's House music history. They hosted their own popular monthly events at the likes of Funky Buddha Lounge, Smart Bar & Red No. 5 and headlined seminal dates such as Thanksgiving Eve and New Years in many of Chicago's hot spots. They toured nationally and internationally as a troupe, not to mention the type of notoriety they've individually amassed. Colette with her stellar career as a vocalist having made over four hit albums for Om records, winning Dancestar Awards and licensing songs for commercials and movies; DJ Heather founding her label BlackCherry Recordings and literally touring the globe non-stop; Dayhota taking her talents over the US borders and back again multiple times; and DJ Lady D touring internationally, working intimately with the Grammy's, producing & remixing for such labels as Sneakerz (NL), Open Bar (NYC), BlackJack (FR), Vista, Body Music and her own imprint, D'lectable Music, since 2004. Individually they've done everything possible to increase the positive profile for DJ's everywhere, but put them all together and their appeal multiplies and transcends!
