About Alex Goldfarb

Emerging from a 10-year hiatus, singer-songwriter Alex Goldfarb announces his 3rd album, SONGS AGAINST THE FRAY, due 3.17.17. With drummer Greg Schutte (Mickey Hart, Ryan Bingham) assisting in production and engineering, Goldfarb combines the rhythmic sensibilities of Paul Simon, the subtle undercurrents of Ray LaMontagne, and the musical dexterity of Ben Harper—the result is something anyone orbiting around the folk-rock/pop world will appreciate.

A one-time touring artist, Goldfarb has been taking things slowly these days, appreciating the simple things in life. Drawing inspiration from meditation practice and spending time with family, he wrote these songs to be a direct snapshot of a moment in time—“Nuanced notes to self,” he says. In alt-country standout track, “Listen,” Goldfarb sings, “Lately, I’ve been hearing a whisper halfway between silence and a voice…just listen.” This voice has essentially been the catalyst for these 10 new songs, loaded with revelation and epiphany, recorded over the course of a year at Bathtub Shrine Studio in Minneapolis.

With drums by Schutte, bass by Jim Anton (Greazy Meal, Jonny Lang) and trumpet by Stephen Kung (Honeydogs, Hookers $ Blow), Goldfarb has surrounded himself with some of the city’s most accomplished musicians. At the heart of SONGS AGAINST THE FRAY, however, are the lyrics of a once-restless man who has made peace with the journey of life. Filled with introspection and delight, featuring album art by Zen calligrapher, Kazuaki Tanahashi, SONGS AGAINST THE FRAY is one of the musical treasures of Spring 2017.
