Elie Rees

Elie Rees is a singer/songwriter who has created her own acoustic niche with edgy and emotive songs. A punk-rock side to Elie's writing combines with catchy melodies and bold lyrics to create a singer songwriter with attitude. Gigging extensively in South-East England,
Elie mixes songs by artists such as Joni Mitchel, Dolly Parton, Blondie and Paloma Faith into her set list for a folksy and charismatic show. Elie's first solo EP ‘Welcome to Wonderland’ is out now.


In classic indie fashion ‘Welcome to Wonderland’ was recorded over the course of a year at home but with massive production values added by award-winning producer Lee Richardson (published with MTV, Nike, Sky TV) doing the final mix and mastering by Nick Cooke (former mastering engineer at Sony’s Extreme Music and musician with Kate Rusby). Vocals were recorded by Saul Rose (musician and producer in Eliza Carthy and Faustus) with the bulk of editing and recording being done by James Delarre (who’s worked with Jim Moray, Fox Searchlight Productions, Topette!!). James also played some guitar, mandolin and
percussion along with David Delarre (Mawkin, Eliza Carthy) on guitars and Peter Thomas (Megan Henwood, Worry Dolls) on Double and Electric Bass.

Unusually, the subject of 'Welcome to Wonderland' is the journey caused by the writing of the EP itself. Fed up with years of trying to overcome PTSD and inspired by troubled artists who made music anyway, Elie decided that instead of being embarrassed by her issues they might just be the most relatable thing she could write about. She started writing and in order to test-drive the songs on real audiences Elie learned the guitar and became a solo artist playing local gigs and festivals including Towersey, Belladrum Teartan Heart and Homegrown. Having expanded the solo guitar arrangements to full band during the making of ‘Welcome to Wonderland’ Elie has started looking for a fuller sound at her live gigs and is experimenting with electronics that she hopes to debut during the summer 2018 shows.
