About Clann Mhic Ruairí

Ceathrar deartháireacha, Tony, Aodh, Sean, Dónall agus iníon Tony, Megan atá sa ghrúpa traidisiúnta ceolmhar seo as Rann na Feirste, atá i nGaeltacht Thír Chonaill. Cuireann siad i láthair a gcuid amhrán dúchasacha le casadh comhaimseartha agus cuideachta ach mar sin féin táthar dílis d'anam traidisiúnta na n-amhrán.
Four brothers, Tony, Aodh, Sean, Dónal and Tony's daughter Megan make up this lively, impromptu traditional Gaelic singing group from Rann na Feirste in the Gaeltacht of North West Donegal. They perform traditional songs with a contemporary innovative and inspirational approach retaining the traditional purity and integrity.
"Individually, they are all renowned singers, but now the Mac Ruairí brothers Aodh, Dónall, Sean, Tony and his daughter Megan from Rann na Feirste have been collectively been performing as Clann Mhic Ruairí. Together, these five individuals create a beautiful sound like only a family of voices can, singing in their native tongue". Sean P Feeney.

'Clann Mhic Ruairí (Clann Vic Ruaree) take the stage in uncharacteristically quiet form with a gentle piano opener and one voice, but it’s the calm before the storm as the audience are soon blown away by the full and powerful force of this Rann na Feirste five piece trad band. With a piano, guitar, bodhran and their most powerful instruments, their voices, this group can get a party started.

Their front man regales with easy patter and rouses another bualadh bos for Sarah and Eve, before launching into the lively ‘Dúlamán’. The audience is soon clapping along as Clann Mhic Ruairi are in their stride doing what they do best. There’s a wildness to their sound that evokes history and heritage, and as you are carried along with it, gives you a deep sense of not only Ireland, but Donegal. Their perfectly tuned harmonies make you think of the hills and mountains around you, that have told so many stories down the years, and continue to inspire artists, musicians, writers, filmmakers and more. There is a tribal quality to their traditional trad sound as their music brings people together in song and dance, but most of all it is distinctly Irish. They do a great job of the popular A Mháire Bhruinneal and the audience are appreciative. They finish to raucous applause and the stage is well warmed up for the much-anticipated Altan'.
