About Kalle Kuts

West-)Berlin native Kalle Kuts is spinning records for more than two decades. Coming musically from a “black music” background, being a trained piano player, also working as a producer/remixer across musical genre barriers and as a dj having excellent mixing skills on the turntables, his dj-sets are always based on Soul, Funk, HipHop, Reggae and R&B, but can also be even more eclectic with House- or sometimes even Pop/Rock tunes in the mix. Because of his fine sense for the vibe of a party and his ability to rock nearly any crowd -not as a human music jukebox, but with class – he is frequently getting booked for club gigs (starting at some legendary places like "Kurvenstar" or "Globus Bar/Tresor" of Berlin´s exploding nightlife during the 1990s throughout the years until today´s “in-spots” of the German capital), but also v.i.p. aftershow parties (e.g. Simply Red, Black Eyed Peas, John Legend, The Roots or at the "ECHO" awards and the opening of "O2 World/Mercedes Benz Arena" Berlin), and as support-/warm up dj at live shows by the likes of Chromeo, Robin Thicke, Dam-Funk or Die Fantastischen 4. Further corporate (e.g. Carhartt, Porsche, Adidas, T-Com, Sony-Ericsson, Motorola, Coca Cola, Puma, o2, Baby Phat, Native Instruments, Sony-BMG, Samsung)and other special events ranging from movie premiere parties (e.g. Quentin Tarrantino´s “Jackie Brown” world premiere at the Berlinale Filmfestival) to gigs at fashion (trade-) shows (e.g. “Bread & Butter”), and since 2007 performing every year on the opening night at the official “Art Club” of Art Basel (world´s most important art trade show) are an integral part of his dj schedule as well.
His "G.I. DISCO" project is focussing on the "80s Club Sound", that originally was brought to Germany by US-American soldiers, their clubs and radio stations and is now again influencing modern club music. The first G.I. DISCO CD/Vinyl compilation was released worldwide on the critically highly acclaimed British record label BBE Music (Jazzy Jeff, Paul Weller, Dimitri From Paris, J. Dilla) and received throughout positive feedback by the international music-/press-/dj-/blog world, German/European Newspapers and News magazines (incl. "Der Spiegel","Zeit Magazin") alike.
The monthly G.I. DISCO club night, started in 2010, appeals not only to the Berlin music lovers and party crowd, but also draws international guests such as Kelly Rowland, Talib Kweli, Camp Lo, Eric D. Clark, DJ Scratch or Lupe Fiasko when in town, as well as the local "DJ jet set" from DJ T. to Jazzanova. Yet G.I. DISCO dj-gigs took place at renowned clubs in many other German cities (Munich, Frankfurt, Cologne, Hamburg, Stuttgart) and the rest of Europe (London, Zurich, Vienna, Barcelona, France, Poland, Lithuania, Estonia). Also the concept and co-curation for the special exhibtion "From G.I. Blues to G.I. DISCO" (2013/2014 at the Berlin "Allied Museum", a division of the German Historic Museum), showcasing the development of the German music-, club- and youthculture under the influence of American G.I.s since end of World War II gained international attention and reputation for the project.
