About Julien Vinçonneau

"Self-taught guitarist since the age of nine with some experience in rock and funk bands, Julien left France to spend one year in Ireland, where he developed a jazz project that grew through local music life and ended in some of the best Festivals in the Galway area (Galway Arts Festival, Project 06, etc).

Back in France, the will to keep going with music and entertaining was bigger than ever and led to the Conservatoire of music in Nantes in 2007. Julien learnt jazz, composing, piano and drums.

After getting his DEM Jazz (French music degree), Julien felt the need to compose his own music. The Julien Vinçonneau Quartet (JVQ) was born. They performed at Festival Soleils Bleus (2013), festival Jazz à Vannes (2013), Les Rendez-vous de l’Erdre (2013), Le Pannonica (2014) as well as La Salle Paul Fort as the opening act for Jacky Terrasson (2014).

Some experiences have been greatly significant for his work such as his meeting with Nelson Veras with whom the JVQ has created an original piece of music for the festival Soleils Bleus in 2013, and the Kurt Rosenwinkel’s workshop in 2014 at Bagnoregio (Italia).

In 2014, he met the singer Elodie Rama (Jazz/Soul/Caribbean) and they performed together at Les Trois Baudets in Paris, the festival Les Nuits Carrées in Antibes, the Stereolux in Nantes, and toured throughout China (Beijing, Shanghai, Chengdu, Jinan, etc). They also performed as a duo to promote her record over the air of main French Radio stations (France Inter, France Culture, RFI)

At the same time, Julien worked on some original side projects : Le Big Band Spoutnik (Hip Hop/Jazz) which he performed at La Folle Journée in Nantes in 2013, and at le Manège (la Roche sur Yon, 2013), as well as Marilou Sous La Neige, a tribute to Serge Gainsbourg with an experimental way.

The Julien Vinçonneau Quartet (JVQ) have just recorded their first LP, A Close Land and People, in February 2016, featuring Leïla Martial, Nelson Veras and Geoffroy Tamisier. It will be available the 30th November 2016 (Aloya Records) and a release party will be held at the Pannonica in Nantes and the Sunside in Paris. The band has revealed their new line up for the 2016/2017 tour, the quartet plus one guest : Leïla Martial.”"
