About Emmeline

Hi! My name is Emmeline (rhymes with "Clemetine"), but you can call me Em. I like long walks on the beach. I also like long drives with the windows down and the radio blaring. Preferably in the country, with quiet roads and lots of cows. I was born in Dallas, TX. It is, to this day, my favorite place in the world. Music has always been a part of my life. I spend most of my free time playing instruments and writing songs, but I also like doing puzzles, reading books, and conducting random cooking experiments. We made banana bread French toast once. It was amazing. I have a number of songwriting crushes. They include, but are not limited to Ani Difranco, Rob Thomas, Billy Joel, and Carole King. It is a huge dream of mine to write with any and all of them. When I was little, I conducted stuffed animal orchestras in my living room. I'd line them up "by instrument," set a book of piano music on a TV tray, and proceed to cue each section with chopsticks. My mother has pictures. She displays them proudly for pretty much everyone who crosses her threshold. My first instrument was an old Knabe upright. My fingerprints have stained the keys, and there are tiny grooves in the middle octave. It is the instrument on which I'm most comfortable, but it's also the only one I play religiously that doesn't have a name. Probably because it's not actually mine. I have over 500 CDs. I know that the times are changing, and people are moving to digital downloads, but I still buy records. There's something really special about tearing back the shrink wrap and poring over the liner notes while the first chords of the first track echo along the walls. You just can't get that from an .mp3 collection. I collect "hotel stuff." I have an entire bathroom cabinet dedicated to mini bottles of shampoo, conditioner, and body lotion. I'm really short. Like, really, REALLY short. But that's okay, because my heels are massive enough that I can look people in the eye. Most of the time. ;) I still race shopping carts down the aisles of grocery stores. I also still blow bubbles in my drinks, and I always drink coffee with a straw. It's just better that way. I have a strange penchant for offensive humor, and I don't think anyone should take themselves too seriously. There is always, always a song playing in my head. My parents are the strongest people I know. I have a number of amazing, wonderful, talented, and intelligent friends who make me smile every single day. I'd love for you to be one of them. Nothing means more to me than people who like my music. Every time you listen to a song and smile, or pause on the way past an open mic, or mouth along to words that you know, or even click a link and sit through a YouTube video, it makes my life. I think that music is meant to be shared, and the fact that I get to share mine with you is one of the coolest things in the world. So, thanks for listening, and thanks for stopping by. And, if you come to a show or see me around, say hi! -Em :) Little girl. Big words.
