About Cernunnos Rising
With a name that derives from ancient pagan ideology, “Cernunnos Rising” represents the iconic antlered guardian of the greenwood and denotes the angry aspect of the green man - which has reappeared more recently as a potent symbol of ecological concern. His spreading tree like antlers reflect the forest, and the wild, restless and turbulent aspects of nature. From an early age, Liverpool-born professional artist George Nicholas had a longing for green spaces and a fascination with seasonal regeneration, cycles of death and rebirth, and the delicate balance in all things. With over 40 years experience enhancing the environments of sick, disadvantaged and terminally ill children with his large-scale paintings of woodlands, undersea scenarios and characters, George continues to run his charity Art For Their Sake to give children the opportunity to see a world beyond their hospital beds. George later expanded his creative skills and philanthropy into his poetry, linking to his lifelong connection to nature. Years on, Cernunnos Rising has evolved as a touring 6-piece band with an extensive repertoire of poetry and music. With four successful albums, painting and sculpture stalls and a lifesize Cernunnos figure attraction (also created by George Nicholas), the band are now festival bound to share their creative sound and messages with a wider audience and folk fanatics. A unique mythological blend of celtic & druidic music celebrating the land, seasons and soul through songs that epitomize the ecological crisis we face.
