About DJ Kai Song

It’s rare to define a child as a prodigy, but with the skills of those 3 times his age, as well as a father who is a professional in the field and taught him since the age of 3, DJ Kai Song has all the attributes of one. DJing is literally in his blood and he’s not afraid to show it. With hundreds of performances under his belt, Kai is a dynamic artist with skills and talent not limited to DJing: he’s also Music Producer, Singer, Pianist, Percussionist and a Host/MC and released his first mix album when he was only 8 years old. This 12 year old DJ prodigy has accomplished more in the past 8 years than many DJs have dreamed of in their lifetime. His passion for music is contagious and has inspired many kids and adults around the globe.
Since before he could pronounce full sentences, Kai’s father allowed him to play music on the the DJ booth in their home. As a product planner for Pioneer, his father develops & tests new DJ equipment and teaches clients how to use their products. So, it was only natural to teach his son how everything worked. This is why Kai has been so comfortable behind the decks for as long as he can remember, resulting in his first gig at age 3 at the Children’s Museum of the Arts in NY.
Over the early years, Kai’s musical interests evolved, from classic rock to pop to dance. He found inspiration from encounters with industry icons such as Steve Angello, Morgan Page, Skrillex, Kaskade and both Tiësto and Tommie Sunshine called him “#thefuture” in recent tweets. Kai has his own unique taste in music and every week he spends hours listening to promos, shopping for new music and preparing for his DJ-sets.
What started as a hobby turned into a career in 2012 with gigs practically every week, an appearance on Good Morning America, write-ups in The NY Daily News, Vogue Bambini, Magnetic Mag and OneBeat and being named as one of 30 DJs to watch for 2013 by Vibe Magazine. Since then, Kai has DJ’d and MC’d NY Kids Fashion Week and Mercedes Benz Fashion Week (for clients such as Heidi Klum, Nike and Swarovski), performed at the International DJ Expo, became the youngest DJ ever at Pacha NY and was featured in Noisey. In 2014, he did his first radio-show (the #1 rated Remix Top 30 Countdown), which was globally broadcast on 38 stations, and played his first festival, opening for Tiësto, Above & Beyond and Krewella at the Thank You Festival. Having DJ’d for many charities over the years, Kai became an ambassador for the Childhood Foundation (alongside fellow DJ Tiësto).
Over the past year Kai had made a lot of progress and diversified his talent: He hosted a National Geographic Kids series, went on his summer first tour DJ’ing at 18 summer camps throughout the United States, and Mattel commissioned him to DJ the "un-boxing" of their newest toys at the International Toy Fair in NYC, which involved remixing the theme songs for brands such as Barbie and Hot Wheels that was streamed live on YouTube. Other gigs included MOMA, Central Park and MLS games at Red Bull Arena and many private events, such as with Gen Art. He and his family recently moved to LA to further purse his career in music.
Kai is transparently passionate about music in all forms. He loves singing and has performed with the Grammy-winning Brooklyn Youth Chorus at venues such as Carnegie Hall and Lincoln Center. Kai has also been playing the piano and percussion since age 5 and has been taking music production classes since age 7, getting his start at Manhattan DJ school Dubspot. He regularly puts his Ableton skills to use by creating Mash-Ups, Re-Mixes for his DJ-set and works on original material as well. As a big Star Wars fan he has remixed the Imperial March, check out the accompanying video here.
Finally, after over 8 years of DJing and 5 years of learning music production, Kai just released his first original production called “I Just Wanna Dance” featuring Mindy Gledhill, which was released on Ultra Music on August 19, 2016. Liquid Todd premiered it on #betabpm on SiriusXM BPM on August 16, 2016.
