About The Ages

The Ages formed originally as a five-piece rock band in February 2012 consisting of Anthony Brothwood (bass, piano, vocals), Edward Brothwood (guitar, vocals), Matt Hill (guitar, backing vocals), Nick Hill (guitar) and Michael Drury (drums). To quickly summarize us as a band musically, we’ve been told we sound a bit like Squeeze, a ‘stoned’ Fleet Foxes and The Everly Brothers. Our first gig was at The Blacksmiths Arms, St Albans with a set list that consisted solely of covers ranging from Eric Clapton to Oasis. Towards the end of 2012 we entered and later won the “Battle of the Bands 21” competition, with our own original material, at The Horn, St Albans. Also, around the same time we began to record our first album, ‘Based On Some Truth’, at Studio One in Watford. In 2014 we began to work on the second album, which includes the song ‘Best House In Town’. For the song a ‘fly on the wall’ music video was produced of ourselves recording during two six-hour studio sessions in January of that year. The video and song were released on the 17th March 2014 to celebrate two years of going to the incredible Studio One. On the 19th April 2014 we supported Mark Morriss (The Bluetones) at The Horn and have since continued to record and gig as much as possible. We were thrilled that our song ‘Self Aware’ from our new album was also given air time on the BBC introducing special celebrating 40 years of the Horn in St Albans (15th November 2014). Then followed 2015, which saw the band release their second album ‘Sharing Ignorance’ which encompasses a range of genres including Funk, Folk and Gypsy Jazz. The release was celebrated by the group’s first UK tour. Five dates which took the Ages from the Home Counties to Manchester, Birmingham, Newcastle and Nottingham, finishing up with a triumphant homecoming gig at The Horn in St Albans. The future sees the band gigging with material from their latest album ‘Sharing Ignorance’ released on the 25th June 2015. You can pick up a hard copy of both of the bands albums at any of their shows. If you would like a digital copy you can visit the music section of their website or simply email theages@live.co.uk and one will be sent via post. Indie band from Hertfordshire, UK
