Steffen Frequento

Frequento’s first love and introduction to music was drums and percussion and musical influences are hip hop, house and techno of the early 90´s. His career in djing started in 1998 when he joined the booking and event agency called Phono Tone. Frequento’s major tasks where organisation, booking, sponsoring and djing. He organzied and played with acts such as Jazzanova, Nuspirit Helsinki, Terrence Parker, Alex Kid, Llorca and Parov Stellar.

After four years of study, Frequento set up the music project Sunsetsoul with Splendor, Bond and Da Wiesel in Leipzig Germany. Sunsetsoul embodieds the current breadth of funk, acid jazz, rare groove, bossa, house and liquid funk. In 2006 Sunsetsoul started event series in different clubs in Germany such as Moritzbastei, PolyesterClub, Chillum, Staubsauger and VictorJara and performed acts such as Smoove,Marc Hype and Jim Dunloop, Tal M. Klein, Goodgroove. Furthermore in 2007 Sunsetsoul has started its own radio show called Deep Drops on Radio Blue which promotes and supports funk, hiphop, jazz and percussion acts from all over the world.

Frequento has played in Leipzig at the open air of Soccer World Cup in 2006, at the book fair in 2007, Unister and for BMW and MINI at the AMI the most important automobile show in Europe. Furthermore he produces multi media fashion shows for Wella Group one of the leading international beauty suppliers. Before he moved to Australia in 2007 he was resident at Polyester Club, Moritzbastei and Chillum.

In Sydney he has played alongside the likes of Dj Regal (Wiseguys), Nickodemus, Marc Hype & Jim Dunloop, Rephrase and Cookin On 3 Burners. Some of Sydney’s top clubs he has dj’d at include: Opera Bar, Clare Hotel, Henry Afrikas, V Bar, Tonic, Melt, Will & Toby’s, The Bourbon and he was resident dj at Beach Rd Hotel Bondi, Tilbury Hotel, Mocean Bondi, Ceruti’s Manly, Arthouse Sydney and Loft UTS Sydney. Furthermore he played at FBI Radio one of Sydney’s most famous electronic radio station and Tripple J Radio Australia’s largest radio station. Frequento plays and illustrates it through the gritty sound of latin, funk, breaks, acidjazz and world beats.
In April 2008 Frequento supported and managed Da Wiesel’s first record on Goodgroove called Boogaloo Stomp and Soulfood with a Smoove and Feature Cast remix. One of the most successful record of Goodgroove.

Back in Germany Frequento set up his own label called Sunsetsoul a jazzy hip hop, funk and latin label which promotes and releases artists from all over the world. The first release “Shotgun” by Sunsetsoul’s producer Da Wiesel comes with a funky dance floor bomb wich is topseller of the year 2008 at Juno Records and Fat City Records. Furthermore Frequento arranged another dope track from Da Wiesel called Raw Rapture on the Resense label which was topseller of the year 2008 at Juno as well. The second release on Sunsetsoul which includes another dance floor filler from greek artist Basement Freaks feat. Quasamodo comes along with remixes from Shantisan the russian latin artist Vilique and Da Wiesel. At the moment Frequento has residences at Elsterartig, Moritzbastei, Chocolate, Beyerhaus and played at Bohannon (Berlin), Sommersalon (Hamburg Kiez), Fusion Festival, Bagdad Cafe (Lodz PL), Kamfora (Breslau PL), MinisterTwo (Krakau PL), Xxe Club (Fribourg CH), Bleu Lezard (Lausanne CH), Chapeau Rouge (Prag CZ), Theater Magdeburg, Puschkin Dresden, Street Level Break Dance Event and at the Games Convention, Europe’s leading computer games event.
