About Harpers Ferry

Ben Harvey: Rhythm Guitar
Christopher Rayner: Lead Guitar
Pia Varma: Lead Vocals
Simon Frankton: Bass Guitar
Oliver Court: Drums

Harpers Ferry is a Gloucestershire-based five- piece folk rock band. Ben and Chris have been writing, playing and recording music together since the ripe age of eleven. Seeing the need to introduce some fresh energy, they introduced longtime singer-songwriter, Pia, into the band on a cold winters morning, New Years Day 2013. The trio instantly connected and have been making waves in the local music scene ever since. They have recently introduced Simon Frankton and Oliver Court to add a bigger and better sound.

They have played a slew of festivals including the Pheonix Festival, the Birmingham Jazz and Blues Festival and the Moseley Folk Festival, and local venues such as the Frog and Fiddle, Cowley Manor and John Gordons.

In 2014, the band hooked up with Jim Simpson of Big Bear Music, who is known for his work in organizing Jazz and Blues Festivals and for being the original manager of Black Sabbath. Jim has helped Harpers Ferry jump onto the professional gigging circuit. Harpers Ferry also recently started working with the Record Label studios in London (www.therecordlabel.co.uk) to record a string of singles to be released over the next year. Their first single, 'What To Believe', has already garnered rave reviews from the likes of Johnny Coppin at BBC Gloucestershire, National Country Review and For the Country Record. It has also been played on Amazing Radio's The Front Porch with Baylen Leonard and Under The Radar with David Durant. The band has also been showcased in Behind the Scenes Gloucestershire, Soglos Magazine and the Birmingham Daily Mail.

The band’s sound is a mix of folk, rock, country, Americana and blues. While they take much of their inspiration from the ‘singer- songwriter’ period of the late 60s/ early 70s, the lyrical content of their songs is contemporary, heartfelt and engaging. ‘What to Believe’ carriers a poignant message about information overload. The musical arrangements which accompany the lyrics are intricate and thoughtful with a keen attention to detail.
