Jorane

Jorane dévoile HEMENETSET, l’œuvre plurielle, collaborative et ambitieuse sur laquelle elle travaille depuis six ans, qui prendra vie sur disque le 17 septembre via L-A be et sur scène en avril 2022, les 6 et 7 au Grand Théâtre de Québec et le 21 au Théâtre Outremont à Montréal.

C’est une grande partie du projet le plus ambitieux de sa carrière que révèle aujourd’hui Jorane avec son 11e album, HEMENETSET. Exploratrice sonore et créatrice d’une rarissime liberté, Jorane transporte ses auditeurs dans une grande fresque musicale de plus de 80 minutes qui s’articule autour du concept de l’instinct et qui correspond à la trame sonore de son spectacle à venir. HEMENETSET traduit la force naturelle instinctive de Jorane, à la source même de sa voix sans mots, celle qui perce le code maître et qui lui permet de s’exprimer sans se plier aux lois du langage.

Co-réalisé par Jorane et par Marc Bell, HEMENETSET se présente comme une symphonie moderne, une véritable odyssée. Centrale, Jorane qu’on retrouve à la voix, au violoncelle et à la harpe, est en symbiose avec les dix musiciens qui la suivent depuis les balbutiements du projet : Geneviève Clermont (violon 1), Vanessa Marcoux (violon 2), Lana Tomelin (alto), Sophie Coderre (violoncelle), Mathieu Désy (contrebasse), Martin Lizotte (piano et synthétiseur), Geneviève Toupin (voix), Chloé Lacasse (voix), André Simard (synthétiseurs modulaires), Marc Bell (synthétiseurs, programmation, percussions). Tous des créateurs à part entière, ces musiciens soigneusement choisis s’imbriquent activement dans l’œuvre que lead Jorane avec une main de maître.

« Prêtez l’oreille… », suggère Normand Baillargeon, à propos de l’œuvre telle que livrée sur scène dans le cadre d’une résidence à la Place des Arts, « Chacun des talentueux musiciens que vous allez entendre est un rouage d’une singulière machine conçue et orchestrée par Jorane : une machine à produire et à transmettre du sens. »

Le concept prend racines dans de multiples inspirations à la fois philosophiques et artistiques qui nourrissent l’artiste, tel que le travail des auteurs Clarissa Pinkola Estés, Abdennour Bidar, Jill Bolte Taylor et Emanuele Coccia. De ces lectures, Jorane retient la nécessité d’engager une reconnexion à soi-même, à l’autre et à la nature. À l’intérieur du vaste monde musical qu’elle déploie, Jorane part à la quête de sa nature profonde en empruntant des chemins de traverse. D’une déconstruction nait une reconstruction à laquelle Jorane convie l’auditeur, l’incitant à s’abandonner à une métamorphose, à imaginer un « après », à expérimenter un chaos créateur et libérateur. Une proposition qui s’inscrit allègrement dans l’époque actuelle, période d’indépendance, de changements, de rébellion et de transition.

Le premier extrait lancé en mai dernier, Les tectoniques, a reçu un accueil chaleureux des mélomanes, se taillant une place sur plusieurs listes d’écoute au niveau international, dont Classical Crossover de Tidal, auprès de Nils Frahm, Sigur Rós, Ólafur Arnalds et Nick Cave. La pièce s’accompagne d’une vidéo interactive et ludique, réalisée par François Blouin (Cirque du soleil, Felix and Paul), collaborateur majeur du projet et créée par le studio Ottomata. On y propose un herbier musical, sous forme de jeu vidéo, où les fleurs s’animent sous le contrôle du participant, clin d’œil sympathique à une phrase d’Emanuele Coccia en laquelle Jorane trouve l’inspiration : « Le monde est avant tout ce que les plantes ont su en faire. » Par sa forme et son contenu, HEMENETSET se bat contre l’orthodoxie et la rectitude et propose une manifestation radicale de liberté.

HEMENETSET SUR SCÈNE
Divisé en tableaux distincts, HEMENETSET se veut la rencontre sur scène des arts, des technologies d’avant-garde et du rituel. Fruit de nombreux laboratoires et rendez-vous artistiques des dernières années, HEMENETSET donne suite à un langage artistique passionnel et à une approche qui vise à déconstruire les codes et à imaginer des méthodes de création inédites.

Jorane s’inspire d’ailleurs de l’esprit open source dans sa relation avec ses collaborateurs, invités à joindre cette construction en toute liberté de création : François Blouin à la mise en scène, Atomic3 aux éclairages, Ottamata à la programmation, Debra Brown à la chorégraphie, Julie Charland et Iso aux costumes. Accompagnée de ses musiciens, Jorane apparait magnifiée, dans une œuvre totale et grandiose.

Jorane porte-parole du Phare, Enfants et Familles
Jorane devient la toute première porte-parole du Phare, Enfants et Familles.
Habituellement très discrète sur sa vie personnelle, c’est avec beaucoup de générosité qu’elle a accepté de raconter son histoire et celle de son fils aîné Manolo. « Si j’ai accepté d’être porte-parole du Phare, Enfants et Familles, c’est que je peux témoigner de son importance dans la vie de tant de gens. Je désire faire connaître cet organisme qui mérite la reconnaissance et l’appui de tous, au nom des enfants les plus vulnérables et de leurs familles qui doivent adapter toute leur vie pour les soutenir », confie l’artiste et mère de trois garçons.

Jorane unveils HEMENETSET, the multi-faceted, collaborative and ambitious work she has been crafting for the past six years, which will come to life on disc on September 17 via L- A be and on stage in April 2022, on the 6th and 7th at the Grand Théâtre de Québec and on the 21st at the Théâtre Outremont in Montreal.

Jorane reveals a large part of the most ambitious project of her career today with her 11th album, HEMENETSET. Explorer of sound and creator of a rare form of freedom, Jorane takes listeners on an 80+ minute musical journey that centers around the concept of instinct and is the soundtrack to her upcoming show. HEMENETSET translates Jorane‘s natural instinctive strength, at the very source of her unique voice, the one that pierces the master code and allows her to express herself without being confined by the laws of language.

Co-produced by Jorane and Marc Bell (Troublemakers, Moment Factory), HEMENETSET is a modern symphony, a true odyssey. Jorane, who performs vocals, cello and harp, is in perfect harmony with the 10 musicians who have been with her since the project’s beginnings: Geneviève Clermont (violin 1), Vanessa Marcoux (violin 2), Lana Tomelin (viola), Sophie Coderre (cello), Mathieu Désy (double bass), Martin Lizotte (piano and synthesizer), Geneviève Toupin (vocals), Chloé Lacasse (vocals), André Simard (modular synthesizers), Marc Bell (synthesizers, programming, percussion). All creative artists in their own right, these hand-picked musicians are actively involved in the work that Jorane leads with a masterful hand.

« Listen carefully… », suggests Normand Baillargeon, about the work presented on stage during a residency at Place des Arts, « Each of the talented musicians you will hear is a cog in a singular machine designed and orchestrated by Jorane: a machine to produce and convey meaning. »

The concept is rooted in multiple inspirations, both philosophical and artistic, that inspire the artist, such as the work of authors Clarissa Pinkola Estés, Abdennour Bidar, Jill Bolte Taylor and Emanuele Coccia. From these texts, Jorane draws on the need to reconnect with oneself, with others and with nature. Within the vast musical world that she unfolds, Jorane embarks on a quest for her deepest nature by taking different paths. From a deconstruction is born a reconstruction to which Jorane invites listeners, inciting them to abandon themselves to a metamorphosis, to imagine an « after », to experiment a creative and liberating chaos. A concept that is in keeping with the current era, a period of independence, change, rebellion and transition.

The first single released last May, Les tectoniques, was warmly received by music lovers, earning a spot on several international music charts, including Tidal’s Classical Crossover, alongside Nils Frahm, Sigur Rós, Ólafur Arnalds and Nick Cave. The work is accompanied by an interactive and playful video, directed by François Blouin (Cirque du Soleil, Felix & Paul), a major collaborator of the project and created by the Ottomata Studio. It features a musical herbarium, in the form of a video game, where the flowers come to life under the participant’s control, a friendly nod to a phrase by Emanuele Coccia in which Jorane finds inspiration: « The world is above all what the plants have made of it. » Through its form and content, HEMENETSET fights against orthodoxy and rectitude and promotes a radical manifestation of freedom.

Divided into distinct works, HEMENETSET is the meeting of art, cutting-edge technology and ritual on stage. The result of numerous experiments and artistic encounters over the past few years, HEMENETSET brings to life a passionate artistic language and an approach that aims to deconstruct codes and imagine new methods of creation.

Jorane is inspired by the open-source spirit in her relationship with her collaborators, who are encouraged to join in the creative process: François Blouin as director, Atomic3 as lighting designer, Ottamata as programmer, Debra Brown as choreographer, Julie Charland and Iso as costume designers. Accompanied by her musicians, Jorane appears magnified, in a spectacular and comprehensive work.

Jorane is the first ever spokesperson for Phare, Enfants et Familles. Usually very discreet about her personal life, it is with great generosity that she accepted to tell her story and that of her oldest son Manolo. « If I accepted to be a spokesperson for Phare, Enfants et Familles, it is because I can testify to its importance in the lives of so many people. I want to raise awareness about this organization that deserves everyone’s recognition and support, on behalf of the most vulnerable children and their families who must adapt their entire lives to support them, » says the artist and mother of three boys.
