About Thom Lyons
Employing a combination of beautifully crafted folk-rock songs and a staggering weathered voice, Thom Lyons has been winning over audiences on both sides of the Atlantic for years.
After growing up in London the youngest son of two Irish immigrants, he became an immigrant himself in 2011 when he fell in love with a girl and followed her 5000 miles away to Portland, OR.
His latest EP “Transatlantic”, his first release since his 2012 eponymous album, is a collection of 6 songs touching on themes of loss, perseverance, marriage, hometowns and heroes. It’s the sound of someone who spent his late teens and early twenties working in a record store and consuming as much music as he could lay his hands on. From foot-stomping rockers like “Will You Be Mine?”, to the delicate folk of “Heartbreaker” and the gospel-tinged powerhouse duet “Learn How To Love Again”, he takes you on a whirlwind musical tour of his influences.
It couldn't have been done without an assortment of Portland's finest musicians, regular collaborator and producer Peter Rodocker, and several special guests, including old friends Anna Tivel and Megan Slankard, as well as Jenny Conlee of The Decemberists.
Since moving to Portland, his songs and performances have led to multiple TV and radio appearances, as well as live shows throughout the pacific northwest, including opening for Rachael Yamagata at The Old Church in Portland OR. The song ”Mary” was featured on 101.9 KINK FM’s compilation CD “Homegrown Music Vol 7” and the 88.5 KMUZ FM compilation “Local Roots Vol 1”.
What others are saying:
"The new EP by Thom Lyons is a beautiful listening experience from start to finish.”
James Wilson – Indie Band Guru
“He combines upbeat bluesy sensibilities with a man willing to shed his skin for the world to see… Lyons’ sincerity is never in question, nor are his abilities as a musician"
Craig Bidiman - Portland Pick
"His bluesy and lovable vocal’s go perfectly with his catchy and at times heart-wrenching lyrics."
Leah S. Pritchett - Outloud Magazine
