Rakia

" A ma naissance on m'a appelée Rakia. C'est un nom que j'avais oublié depuis le temps. Comme souvent la vie s'était chargée de recouvrir la personne que j'avais été par une autre, puis une autre encore, m'éloignant toujours plus du premier cri.
Un jour, dans le désert de ma Normandie d'adoption, j'ai écrit quelques chansons. Je hurlais
Rakia, c'était soul, même si mes références sont plutôt du côté de la chanson française ou du hip hop.
Assez vite j'ai eu l'occasion de faire des premières parties d'artistes connus : Ben l'oncle soul,
Susheela Raman, Tryo, Cats On Trees, Ayo, Pauline Croze, Fauve, Ibeyi, entre autres. Pas mal pour une gamine de 20 ans à peine sortie de sa chambre! J'ai de la chance, espérons que cela continue !"





" What makes Rakia's presence special is her sweet insolence.

And maybe this is what in turn makes her music so special !
In most of her songs she mixes French and English. The lyrics are catchy, and she sings them with a powerful, soulful voice. The sound of her acoustic guitar may be meteoric or delicate, as she chooses.

And this is the way she lives. In turns wise, playful, casual and often teasing, she sings herself to freedom, giving away all her seeting, true, self. She leaves you panting for breath.

Her range of lyrics and music is becoming larger and larger with time, and her stage experience stronger. Her artistic project came to life in the spring of 2013, thanks to the support of the Viroise association Les Virevoltés. Since then, the concert hall Le Cargo in Caen has taken over and is supporting her work.

She recently featured as the first part in the concerts of Ben l'Oncle Soul, Tryo, Shusheela Raman, Cats On Trees and Ayo keeping her own pace. She may be 18 only, but she surely is a promising singer. "
