About Pola

There is more than one artist with this name:

1) Pola is an electronic pop duo from Switzerland

Pola are simply blessed with the unpretentious ability to hit the brakes at the last pit-stop before the electro-highway begins and to cast a perky yet piercing glance at the electronic happenings of today – resulting in an album that led the two protagonists to simultaneously exclaim in excitement and awe: "Oh My God What Have I Done!" After their successfull and well recived debut-album from autum ‘05, Pola have taken things further with the new album, release in march 07. Pola haven't exactly been lacking excitement of late. The tour to go with their debut-album that was simply entitled "Pola" (2005) brought Oli Kuster (Mich Gerber, ex-Züri West) and Marcel Blatti (ex-Felka, Mãozinha) as far as Berlin and to the MIDEM in Cannes. The unmistakable pros of the Berlin-based DJ-collective Jazzanova discovered the electro-troubadours from Berne and commissioned their dreamy ballade "Circles" for the compilation "Secret Love 3" (Sonar Kollektiv). while you would normally have to buy an entire record collection in order to extract such a varied bouquet of splendid tracks, a single Pola album that sounds like a summit between Tunng, DFA and Warp is enough. More summer, more energy, disco-, folk-, and newsoul-elements. And the moments for which the duo is known – and loved – aren't missing either: reminiscences of the electro-pop eighties, the slightly awry crankiness and playfulness, catchy tunes that will bore themselves under even the thickest of skins and – between many bright, bacchanal and breezy moments – melancholic synthesizer submersion.

2) Pola is an electronic artist from Japan.

3) Pola is Tazio Iacobacci, a composer and songwriter based in Catania. He began in the early ‘90’s as a drummer for 'Keen Toy', realizing an LP for Indigena Records, several compilations with bands of the Italian indie scene and touring as support act for bands as Unwound, Girls Against Boys, Bedhead, Three Second Kiss, Uzeda.

At the same time he developes his interest in composing music shifting between acoustic and electronic soundscapes. In 2001 he starts his activity for theatre, composing the original music for “Luna D’agosto” a work by Fabrizio Bordignon e Franco Conte and “Eppure Europa” by Paola Greco e Davide Crimi. In November ‘01 his composition for sextet “Rachel” is selected for the Contemporary Music Festival in Rovereto esecuted by the “Renato Dionisi” chamber ensemble.
Tazio creates soundtracks for Italian dance-theatre performances like “Die Mauer – il Muro” by Valeria Geremia and “4 Caminos” by Motomimetico, performed in Catania and Rome in the winter 2002. In the 2003 he also carried out installations for the International festival “Mappe” and for “Svendita Fallimentare” by Majazè.

For his original way of combining electronic and minimal songwriting he’s been asked to join productions like : “Songs for Ulan” an electro-acoustic project by Pietro de Cristofaro signed to Stout Music, remixing “In coda” a Cesare Basile’ single for Mescal label.

Actually he plays with 'Tellaro', a slow-core band signed to 2nd Records, based in Hamburg. In addition to playing drums he also contributes with programming 'electronic' parts.

Another Tazio's project is Feldmann, runned with Massimo Ferrarotto (Puertorico-Loma). Mainly It's a guitar duo and the musical approach is close to american indie-songwriting style. In 2006 January their first Lp will be relesed by StoutMusic/Shinseiky.

In recent times Tazio run his first electronic project “Pola”, that features collaborations with several musicians and singers. In april 2004 Pola has been selected, as Italian representative project, to play the live performance at the electronic international music festival “Distorsonie” in Bologna.
He continues touring and playing live.
