About The Grey Goose Blues Band
Formed in 2009 by singer/guitarist and songwriter, Frankie Williams, the Grey Goose Blues Band are
ecclectic and uncompromisingly original in their approach to writing and performing the blues. They are based in
England’s second city, Birmingham.
The band are influenced by the UK blues scene of the 60’s and 70’s. They also take influences from other British
movements such as Northern Soul, Punk, Ska and ‘New Wave’ of the late 70’s. Ultimately their sound is influenced
most by the pantheon of American electric Rhythm and Blues from across the ages. Artists such as T Bone Walker,
Big Joe Turner through Johnny Otis, Bo Didley and Ray Charles on to Robert Cray and Gary Clarke Jr. Then of course
there’s the massive influences of BB and Albert King and the great Muddy Waters.
The Grey Goose are also quick to praise the quality of the current crop of British blues artistes who are producing a
variety of inspiring takes on the genre. There are too many to mention but this is the context in which the Grey Goose
Blues Band have developed.
“Underground blues clubs and radio in the UK today are supporting a lot of quality bands, there is a lot going
on and it’s a great time to be playing Blues in the UK”.
Frankie Williams
Don’t take our word for it.....
Blues Matters Magazine
“one of the best newcommers to the blues scene in 2011”
Blues in Britain Magazine
“superb musicianship...lyrically imaginative...excellent phrasing.....accomplished and dramatic”
Tony McPhee - The Groundhogs (Tony played in John Lee Hooker’s backing band on his first tour of Britain
in 1969)
“I loved the GGBB the first time I saw them. Basically, they play the blues like it should be played with
passion and feeling and they have some great songs”
Jimmy Carlyle - BBC Radio Shetland
“These new tracks are absolutely excellent, great sound, great groove,. ‘The Hunter’ is a classic. You keep going with
that band sound as no one else sounds like this. Great, can’t wait for the new album, but of course I will have to.”
