Dante Matas

Born in 1992 and raised in the heart of downtown Toronto, Dante Matas began writing music on the piano at the age of eight. After forming his first band at the Etobicoke School of the Arts as lead singer and guitarist, and then later picking up the drums, Dante would discover music to be his lifelong passion and a means to his creative expression. Today, with an MA in Philosophy and a penchant for poetry and creative writing, Dante has combined his interests to create his own unique brand of pop, folk, and experimental music. He is highly influenced by the likes of Radiohead, Sufjan Stevens, Paul Simon, The Beatles, and Leonard Cohen among many others. Dante’s music tends to have a contemplative and introspective character to it, but never at the expense of a catchy melody. Dante has written and self-produced numerous singles and EPs, including a full-length album. He has composed music for a commercial used internationally by the FASD (Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder) charity which received considerable exposure in the press. Dante has filmed a series of live videos featuring both solo and full band arrangements. He also won the 2014 Ryerson University Battle of the Bands as a solo artist. Dante writes and records music daily, plays live shows on a frequent basis, and is constantly perfecting his musical craft. Dante’s overall drive is to communicate human emotion through music and lyrics in a way that resonates with a diverse audience. Today, as a 4th year University philosophy student and a poetry enthusiast, Dante has managed to combine these interests into his songwriting to shape his current and evolving musical artistry. Dante is an accomplished songwriter, guitarist, pianist, and has taken vocal lessons for many years. Dante is determined to make music his lifelong career. To date, Dante has produced three CD’s, played most of the venues in the GTA on a regular basis, filmed live music videos, had exposure in the press, and has written close to 100 songs in total. Altogether, Dante’s overall drive and inspiration is the emotion, communication, and the telling of a story through his musical craft. I'm Dante. I write music.
