Thomas

Thomas is a 22 year old poet from New York City who has been writing verses, poems and songs since 2001 when events of the day drove him to ignore his English teacher who was dictating the 2nd chapter of a book he had finished reading the night it was assigned. Having bought a cheap microphone in 2002 he has been recording his music since. Raised in Queens & Staten Island he grew up during what many would say was Hip-Hop's golden era. As he began writing Hip-Hop as a genre was increasingly becoming overwhelmed(at least in the mainstream) with artists and music which focused on the so called "gangster" and "party" aspect.

With the emergence in 2003 of artists like Kanye West, Hip-Hop has seen a resurgence of so called "Conscious" MC's, those who write music intended to bring more thought into the genre.

Thomas' first album, recorded mostly over instrumentals he downloaded and almost entirely in his first and only year at a dorm room in SUNY Old Westbury is called "3rd Time's the Charm". Consisting of material from 2003-2004 it's the raw work and voice of a kid who has too much on his shoulders.

After dropping out of school Thomas began to work and eventually began acquiring equipment for his own home studio.

His second album "Great Kills", named after the town he grew up in Staten Island was started in 2005. Having learned more about recording and with the experience of a few more years writing this album completely finally in 2007 is an autobiographical count of a boy becoming a man in New York City. This album while never mastered is complete and there are plans to make a music video for either "Mirrors" or "Where are You?(Goodbye)". To be released on iTunes / Limited Release soon.

In 2006 Thomas began producing his own music using Logic Pro on his Macs.

In 2007 he started incorporating guitar in his music.

His music is listed on myspace.com/apoet as Hip-Hop / Soul / Rock as his music is a representation of himself, his environment and everything that he's been influenced by.

In 2008 Thomas is working on his 2nd album "Walk" and is looking to shoot the first video from "Great Kills" sometime in the spring.
