About Shauli Einav

Saxophonist Shauli Einav was described as a
"blowing bundle of virtuosity" Jazz Inside Magazine NYC
and his latest album Opus One (Plus Loin Music) was reviewed as a
"Smartly played, swinging and evocative jazz album” DownBeat Magazine

Einav is a part of today’s vibrant jazz scene of NYC, there he plays with some of today’s leading jazz figures such as: Aaron Goldberg, Avishai Cohen, Don Friedman, Eliot Zigmund, Dan Tepfer, Omer Avital, Johnathan Blake, Joseph Lepore, Shai Maestro, Walt Weiskopf, Frank Gambale, Dave Liebman, Gilad Hekselman, Andy Hunter, Quincy Davies, Marshall Gilkes.

His vast experience in NYC’s clubs lead to the creation of his Plus Loin Music debut album “Opus One” which was praised by jazz critics as
”fresh and original voice" JazzTimes
"with his expressive horn, imaginative pen, Einav is already setting himself apart" All About Jazz NY.
Following the successful release of his album Einav’s quintet was invited to play in major stages such as Duc des Lombards, Sudtirol Jazzfest, Rochester Jazzfest, Red Sea Jazzfest, Enjoy Jazzfest, Smalls, Kitano, The Knitting Factory, Unterfahrt, Hannover Jazzclub, Sunside/Sunset among many others.

Born 1982 in the countryside of Israel. started playing the violin at the age of 4, when he was 13 he switched to the saxophone and started playing with many Jerusalem and Tel-Aviv based bands. In 1998 Einav was discovered by legendary American saxophonist Arnie Lawrence who came to Israel in order to bring peace between Jews and Arabs through music. Mr Lawrence who himself was mentored by Ben Webster was the linking piece between Jerusalem & Tel Aviv musicians to NYC’s Jazz heritage.
Immediately after completing his studies at the Jerusalem Academy of Music & Dance Einav moved to the United States where he earned a Masters degree from the prestigious Eastman School of Music. Einav has won two ASCAP Young Composer Awards, Billy Joel Scholarship, Israel-American Culture Fund scholarships, and this year he was selected to represent Israel at the International Cite des Arts in Paris by the Israeli Minstry of Culture.

This year (2013) Einav is about to release 2 new CDs. The first project for the American label Posi-Tone Records which will include veteran Jazz Masters pianist Don Friedman (Chet Baker, Dexter Gordon, Joe Henderson) and drummer Eliot Zigmund (Bill Evans trio).
Einav's second project is for Cristal Records with Shauli’s new European/American quintet
