About The Oh Whales

From the emergence of their first demo, “This Demo is Cheese on a Board,” The Oh Whales had created a buzz throughout Raleigh. “City of Oaks” and “This Song Would Sound Better in Wingdings” returned to Raleigh’s Music scene a heartbeat of pure adrenaline it had been missing for several years. The experience of seeing The Oh Whales live is nothing short of an in-your-face, punk rock throw-down, involving moshing, dancing, and hands in the air, not pockets. Each song in The Oh Whales catalogue tells its own story, ranging from a last rendezvous with love lost, the struggle to triumph through doubt, and non conventional stories of life. Gripping overdriven guitar riffs, perfectly blended bass fills, and jet-fueled drumming give the stories life behind vocals that replace the typical punk-rock rasp with an emotional urgency that beg the listener to feel, rather than hear. Rooted in a passion for music, The Oh Whales legacy began in a Raleigh music store. Long time friends, and previous bandmates, Derek and Jon were to start a new project, Derek recruited fellow guitar enthusiast Devin, who introduced long time friend, and previously signed drummer, Alex to the idea. With just a few song writing sessions, the pieces naturally fell into place- they had a sound, a name, and a collective mission. Shows and feedback came effortlessly, with fans joining the band’s social media accounts daily. Music venues and their owners began to take notice, also following the group's accounts, helping them find them selves on Reverberations top 10 Raleigh-based alternative bands. The guys found a following and local success before ever releasing an album. The Oh Whales are hard at work, hoping to capture the energy of a live performance complimented with clean, crisp filter to give fans the best album possible. Check back for continued updates, and don’t miss the opportunity to say you saw these hometown heroes first, in the 'City of Oaks’. Pop-core. Is that a thing? Booking: booking@theohwhales.com
