About fox and the acres
Spirited by a unique blend of indie-rock energy and blues voicings, Fox and the Acres offers a sound that is both catching and intriguing. With complex, artistically inspired melodies, the group lends itself to a variety of sounds that pique curiosity and provoke sensitivity. With classical training, the creativity, talent, and depth of the band is vividly apparent but coolly modest. The five-piece band is driven by Meg Zahora’s emotive, jazz-inspired vocals and is complemented by an eloquent piano line delivered by Matthew Merz and the intense talents of Emily Backal (percussion), Corey Zahora (bass), and TJ Fulfer (guitar).
Originating from Meg and TJ’s indie-folk project - The Knitted Cap Club (2011) - fox and the acres explores the same organic honesty that the duo emphasized in their previous works. As the couple began to seek more opportunities for a full band sound, Backal, Zahora, and Merz were soon added as permanent members in 2015. After several quick-to-gel practices and tight performances, the newly formed band saw the creative potential that came with developing their much-loved project into what is now fox and the acres.
With a repertoire that expands upon the original KCC release Winter is Coming (2014), fox and the acres explores a variety of musical additions that add a vibrancy to their initial work. Though newly formed, it is obvious this group of musicians was meant to be together. Through their strong friendship, musical passion, and immense talents, fox and the acres has become an exciting and unforgettable new project - and a strong force to be reckoned with in the musical world.
