About DEADWATT

"Deadwatt is a ska punk-influenced band founded in Nashville, Tennessee. With varying influences across the band such as punk, jazz, hard rock, and reggae, they have gained a reputation for being one of the most eclectic bands in the Nashville music scene. Formed in 2015, Deadwatt combines these elements of music to produce a musical style true to their nature, bringing forth a “Ska-Core” sound, true to the genre they claim as their own. From heavy guitar riffs to the soulful sound of the trumpet, Deadwatt has captivated Nashville audiences. The group is composed of five individuals who never compromise their own individual musical styles, as each member adds a unique sound to the collective style of music.

“We're all five different individuals with 5 different styles. We bring all of those styles together and I feel it creates a type of "Raw" clash that appeals to people's ear. “Says guitarist Lee Bowen.

After leaving a previous band, Lee Bowen began searching for a band he could connect with. After meeting Jason Dean (drums) and Steve Casto (bass), the three went on playing together consistently. Strangely enough, it was during a hiatus when Lee met classical trumpeter Les McDonald and that is when things really started to happen for the group. After a month of rehearsals, the guys met the final addition to the lineup. Frontman Dylan Chism had the ideals and sound the band was looking for in a vocalist. It wasn’t until the band was a complete 5 piece that Jason came up with the name Deadwatt.

Soon after settling into their name and new style, the band released their debut Music Video on Bohemia Afterdark in 2016. The video was nominated for an Indieville TV Music Award (2017). Succeeding their first music video, Deadwatt released their debut EP, “Side A,” staying true to their diverse sound. Lush with hard hitting guitar sections, an aggressive vocal scheme, and a ska punk edge, the record boasts the aesthetic of punk-inspired anthems. Most importantly, the EP never loses sight of the emotional platform in which great songs are built. In 2017, the band surprised fans with their latest EP, “Side B.” The sophomore project utilizes the trumpet and vocals in the form of a duet, creating an emotional landscape that often strays from traditional ska punk to more melodic tendencies. The band felt the need to make two EPs to encompass and showcase the wide range of styles they are capable of. Deadwatt continues to evolve their sound and polish their writing, as all great musicians do. Currently, the band is in the studio preparing for a full length album.

You can find “Side A” for purchase in most major digital outlets, whereas “Side B” is available exclusively on Bandcamp and the Map Indie App."
