About Katie Hampton

Los Angeles native Katie Hampton began her singing career at a young age, lending her voice to various commercials including Frigidaire, Fresh Step, and Walgreens. She started studying piano at 7, and in high school focused her attention on jazz. She got the opportunity to sing with David Foster and Michael Bublé for a benefit concert at age 15. McGill University in Montreal, Canada was where Katie decided to pursue a Vocal Jazz Performance degree, and she graduated with a Bachelors of Music in 2009, having participated in the McGill Concert Choir, Jazz Choir, Effusion acapella group, and Varsity Women’s Soccer.

In 2007, a successful audition for Sergio Mendes' band was a thrilling turning point. For the last nine years she's toured with Sergio as one of three main singers, including his wife, Gracinha Leporace. Katie was a featured soloist on Sergio’s 2010 album, Bom Tempo, and she has recorded backgrounds on his last two albums. With Sergio as the executive music producer for the films Rio and Rio 2, Katie was one of the “Rio Singers”.

Other film credits include: Sing, Star Trek Beyond, Jurassic World, Ice Age: Meltdown, Tomorrowland, The Interview, Behind the Candelabra, Tangled, Winnie the Pooh, The Sorcerer’s Apprentice, Sex and the City 2, and Beverly Hills Chihuahua. TV and other credits include the theme for Don't Trust the B---- in Apt. 23, dancing choir member singing Happy in the aisles with Pharrell Williams at the 54th Grammys, The Voice, Modern Family, Bunk’d, Shameless, Warehouse 13, Lemonade Mouth, Monk, Gossip Girl, and The Tonight Show with Jay Leno.

Deep in the Rust was an EP of five original songs created by Katie and her dad Steve, released in 2013. They performed at Los Angeles venues including Witzend, Molly Malones, and House of Blues’ Voodoo Lounge. Katie also performs for the band Opus Orange as a synth player/vocalist, and sings backgrounds for award-winning vocalist/trombonist Aubrey Logan. In 2015, Katie joined the Los Robles Master Chorale as an Alto. In 2016 she performed with a small group at the Walt Disney Hall, conducted by John Adams, featuring modern works as part of the Green Umbrella Series.

Katie is currently pursuing more songwriting, more Portuguese-singing for Sergio Mendes, session, background, and choral singing, playing coed soccer, and enjoying her eclectic neighborhood of Silver Lake, Los Angeles with her husband Basti.
