There’s a feeling running through the music community today. Fans and musicians alike are looking for a new direction. Something different than what’s been taking place. Something that has the mojo and spirit of the past created for today’s times. That’s what Mel Booker and KING are playing right now.

Originally from South Texas, Mel Booker grew up in an eclectic music scene and absorbed many different styles into his playing. Major influences for him include Jimi Hendrix, Prince, Roger Troutman & Jason Becker. Mel relocated to the Antelope Valley (about an hour north of Los Angeles) and has become a staple in the High Desert music scene. Along with his unique take on funk and blues, he is also known for his store Mel Booker Music. He and his staff have been providing musical foundations for many people of all ages in the Antelope Valley for almost ten years now.

After raising his family and establishing his business, Mel formed KING in February 2015. This was followed quickly by performance at the California Poppy Festival in Lancaster, CA on April 2015. Since then, KING has been gigging consistently and become a regular feature on festival events for the City of Lancaster including Streets of Lancaster, Bacon Blues and Brews, and Field of Drafts. The band is comprised of Amy Bullock on Vocals, Jesse Davidson on Bass and Tre Balfour on Drums. Amy is a graduate of Antelope Valley College’s Commercial Music program with a musical theatre background. Jesse is a former student of Mel Booker Music, an AVC Commercial Music graduate, and Stage Hand at the Lancaster Performing Arts Center. Tre is a band director at Littlerock High School and formerly a percussionist for Color Me Badd, All 4 One, and Michael Bolton.


The band wouldn’t be possible without four distinct personalities coming together to make music. That’s when the mojo happens. The rhythm section clicks, Mel Locks into that vibe, and it feels as though the band can literally go anywhere all while the vocals soar on top of the sound. It’s that feeling we all love as musicians and as fans. Mel Booker and KING lives for it and will hopefully bring that feeling to you on a recording or future show.
