About Off the Record
There are at least two bands that go by the name of 'Off The Record':
1) One is a punkrockband from the U.S. that now no longer performs
2) The other is a beatbox band from Belgium.
In 2004, Off The Record rises from the ashes of Flemish theatre collective Podium Modern: their last play evolves into a vocal band. 4 men set out on a search to what they can achieve musically using only sounds produced by mouths and vocal chords. They differ from the hip-hop beatbox culture in that songs and group sound are all important. They differ from a'capella groups in that they are each equipped with a decent set of cojones. On their self-titled debut album released in 2005, they show they can confirm on a record what they have proven live throughout the Benelux by then: producing swinging, funny, moving, enticing songs that make you forget only mouths are producing the sounds. In the summer of 2005 they prove they can stand their ground on the bigger festivals in Belgium and Holland.
After a change of personnel the band starts work on their second album in 2007. With "Don't Wait Up" Off The Record is aiming at radio and dancefloor alike; ALL songs are still produced by voices, tongues and lips, but the result sounds like a contemporary pop record. The first single "Pinkerbeat" (nothing to do with the colour... 'pinker' is Flemish for the indicator on a car) was released at the end of januari 2008. The album was released in march. Since that time OTR have returned to their natural habitat: a stage near you.
