About Joda Cema

Moulded from the discarded remains of earlier projects, JODA CEMA came into being in 2004 with the aim being to deliver a fierce brand of thrash/groove metal without the bullshit and overriding seriousness the scene so often requires. Armed with a name they like to believe is derived from an Ancient Aztec phrase for "By the balls of the Devil"s this goal was realised quickly and, within a matter of months, a number of bold and unrelenting tunes had been penned. Having a 5 piece, 2 vocal, 2 guitar set up allowed the full brutality and dynamic of the music to be fully expressed. With a thriving local metal scene, an abundance of quality venues with eager promoters and being full of anger and youth, JODA CEMA embarked on their journey of keeping it heavy and solid with a fluid style and aggressive sound. With a plethora of shows under their belt and confidence growing, the recording of their first EP, "More Than To Know" was a landmark moment, rubber stamping the band as a force to be reckoned with. As the months and years marched on, JODA CEMA marched onwards and upwards, securing shows throughout the South of England and playing along side the likes of Napalm Death, Skindred, Ted Maul, Malefice and Job for a Cowboy, making a name for themselves and developing a sizeable and widespread fan-base. But then came the inevitable problems....Following the departure of Elliot "The Beard" Biddell after several years of service, JODA CEMA went into shock until Dan "Spiderman" Evans arrived to rejuvenate the group and they were back in full flow. However, shortly after, guitarist Jon "Alberto Moreno" Hopkins also left the fold knocking the band back again...but not for long. Intent on continuing to smash the arse out of the local metal scene and beyond, JODA CEMA continued as a 4 piece. They feared this would have a detrimental impact, although these fears were quickly proven unfounded and actually led to a new lease of life with the band putting together new, more intense tracks and subsequently recording their second EP "David Hasselhoff's Top 50 Power Ballads". With renewed vigour, the band set out playing more shows and were finalists and close runners up in the "Metal 2 The Masses" competition, narrowly losing out on a place at Bloodstock Festival. From then on however, things began to turn for the worse and, after many local shows and despite having a devoted following, in 2009, JODA CEMA played a show which would prove to be their last...until now... 6 years on and with the prospect of a fresh start, an older (balder) and wiser band has emerged. Sure, the youth has started to fade but the desire and music remains and, with the welcome, refreshing addition of Dan Peaty and Tony Greenhalgh on lead vocals and guitar respectively, JODA CEMA has risen like a demented phoenix to once again unleash the beast. Reprising original material and with the promise of something new on the way, JODA CEMA are intent on making an impact on the scene and bringing thrash back to the front line. Taking the bullshit out of metal since 2004
