About Birdman's Clambake

Virtuoso guitar playing backed by a powerful rhythm section: Birdman's Clambake serves up just the right amount of ballsy blues with classic rock and a side of kitsch. The band's repertoire, often fluidly ordered on the fly by founder / guitarist Sean “Birdman” Gould, ranges from 50s staples to classics from the 60s and 70s. One of the highlights of each of the band’s sets is having the Birdman stroll wirelessly through the audience, playing slide guitar solos with beer bottles and glasses and posing for “selfies” with the audience mid-solo. They also feature a good number of originals including the singles "Oye Mamacita," the band's 2000 ode to the ladies of Hialeah and "Beer, Biscuits and Gravy," filmed at the now-closed Tobacco Road’s upstairs cabaret.

Gould, originally from Hilton Head, SC, moved to Miami in 1993 and quickly became a fixture on the local scene as an engineer, producer and guitarist-for-hire. He cites Bob Dylan, Jimi Hendrix and Neil Young as his favorite guitarists / songwriters. Birdman worked the sound board at notable establishments like Stephen Talk House, Power Studios, 7th Circuit Studios, the 901 Club, Tobacco Road, and was up to recently the head sound engineer at Will Call Miami. He’s been on the road mixing for Nil Lara, Suenalo and the Subdudes. As a sideman, he’s lent his four and six-string talents to Lara, Johnny Dread, Mixed Culture and Natural Causes.

Technically, the band started out as an outfit called Brothers of Different Mothers in late 1993, but once the original bassist departed, Clambake 2000 was formed out of the ashes of that group. Currently, the trio features Monchy Corugedo on drums and Michael Mut on bass. The band has also included contributions from Ari Schantz on drums, and Jason Postelenek and John Falcone on bass.

Born in Las Vegas, NV to Cuban parents, Corugedo was raised in Miami as self-described Key Biscayne rat. His first instrument was the trumpet and he started on the drums at age 13. Monchy got his first taste of touring in a punk band at 16 and studied music at the University of Miami as a teen. He attended the Berklee College of Music 1987-1989 and finished his music major at Florida International University in 1992. He notably opened for Ace Frehley, Jefferson Starship plus a few other nationals in the 90s. His main influences are Stuart Copeland, Neil Peart, Keith Moon and John Bonham.

Birdman’s Clambake today plays throughout South Florida at music festivals, bars, lounges and private events. For more information or to book the band, call 305.283.3658 or email birdmansclambake@gmail.com.
