RanestRane

Born in 1998, the Italian rock band RanestRane (that means “Strange Frogs”) stands out in the Italian rock prog scene thanks to its live performances, named as "CineConcert".

In 2007, RanestRane released their debut album "Nosferatu", inspired by the cult movie "Nosferatu the Vampyre" by W. Herzog, receiving rave reviews from the critics.

In 2011, the band brought out its second album, based on "The Shining" by Stanley Kubrick, characterized by psychedelic atmospherics while alterning vocal and instrumental parts, as typical of RanestRane’s work.

In November 2013, "A Space Odyssey – part one – Monolith" was released. The album features guest appearances from Steve Rothery and Steve Hogarth, guitarist and frontman of Marillion respectively. The occasion arose in 2012, during the annual The Web Italy Convention (the meeting of the Italian fans of Marillion), when RanestRane performed a preview of the album and played some songs from the Marillion repertoire together with Steve Rothery. "Monolith" is the first part of a trilogy, inspired by the Stanley Kubrick's masterpiece 2001: "A Space Odyssey".

In the same year RanestRane played at the Italian Prog Rock Festival in Japan together with the guitarist Enzo Vita, accompanied by a full orchestra. It was the first live performance of the seminal symphonic rock album "Contaminazione" (originally released in 1973 by "Il Rovescio della Medaglia" - RDM) in its entirety. The recording of the concert has been released in 2014 as "Live in Tokyo".

In 2014, RanestRane was the support band on the Steve Rothery Band’s European Tour.

On February 5th, 2015, "Monolith in Rome – A Space Odyssey Live" has been released on DVD and CD, filmed and recorded in Rome at Crossroads Live Club, featuring Steve Rothery.

In March 2015 RanestRane performed on the prestigious stage of the Marillion Weekend in Netherlands, playing to an audience of 3,000 people.

In September 2015 the band played with Steve Hogarth in Rome, performing acoustic arrangements of Marillion’s classics as well as of Hogarth’s repertoire of songs. The event formed part of the "H natural 2015 Christmas Tour".
On December 12th, 2016, the movie of the concert has been released.

The new album "A Space Odyssey – part two – H.A.L." has been released worldwide on December 4th, 2015, followed by an European tour to support the album.

The third part of A Space Odyssey’s trilogy will be entitled "Starchild" and it is currently a work in progress.

Nata nel 1998, la rock band RanestrRane risalta nel panorama del progressive italiano per
le performance dal vivo, i "CineConcerti", durante i quali i testi e le musiche della band si fondono con i dialoghi originali di un film proiettato sullo schermo.

Non si tratta di semplici sonorizzazioni, bensì di una vera e propria rielaborazione dell’opera filmica, che possa far pensare a chi ascolta che sia il film ad esser stato creato per la musica e non viceversa.

Il sonoro originale del film viene quasi interamente sostituito dai testi e musiche delle canzoni di RanestRane e solo in alcuni momenti si riaffacciano i dialoghi originali accompagnati dalle musiche della band, guidando così lo spettatore a seguire la trama naturale del film con un approccio diverso e spettacolare.

I concept album così realizzati diventano quindi delle vere e proprie opere rock, in cui i dialoghi dei personaggi vengono arricchiti e integrati dalle liriche e i fondali narrativi acquistano punti di vista nuovi e inesplorati.

Nel 2007 ha visto la luce "Nosferatu", opera prima della band, ispirata dal cult movie "Nosferatu, il Principe della Notte" di W. Herzog, raccogliendo fin da subito ottime critiche.

Nel 2011 la band si è cimentata con un altro film d’autore, "Shining" di Stanley Kubrick, dando vita alla rock opera omonima, mantenendo l’alternanza continua di parti cantate e strumentali tipica del loro lavoro, ma prediligendo toni psichedelici.

Nel 2012 la band si è esibita con Steve Rothery durante l’annuale convention di "The Web Italy", suonando alcuni brani classici del catalogo dei Marillion. Questa occasione ha fatto scoccare la scintilla per una collaborazione musicale al nuovo album di Ranestrane che si sarebbe basato sul capolavoro di Stanley Kubrick "2001: Odissea nello spazio".

Nel novembre 2013 è uscito "A Space Odyssey – Part One – Monolith", con ospiti speciali come Steve Rothery e Steve Hogarth, rispettivamente chitarra e voce dei Marillion, presenti in ben due brani a testa. Monolith è la prima parte di una trilogia.

Lo stesso anno la band si è esibita insieme al chitarrista Enzo Vita all’Italian Progressive Rock Festival di Tokyo, eseguendo per la prima volta dal vivo tutti i brani del seminale album rock-sinfonico "Contaminazione" (1973 – Rovescio Della Medaglia), accompagnati sul palco da un’orchestra al completo. La registrazione del concerto è stata pubblicata in CD nel 2014 con il titolo "Live in Tokyo".

Nel 2014 RanestRane è stata scelta come support band della Steve Rothery Band, accompagnandola in un tour europeo di successo.

Il 5 febbraio 2015 è stato pubblicato in DVD e CD il nuovo album dal vivo "Monolith in Rome – A Space Odyssey Live", filmato e registrato a Roma presso il CrossRoads Live Club, con la partecipazione di Steve Rothery.

Nel marzo 2015 RanestRane si sono esibiti sul prestigioso palco del Marillion Weekend in Olanda, davanti a un pubblico di tremila persone.

A settembre 2015 la band ha accompagnato Steve Hogarth, in occasione della tappa italiana dell’ "H natural Christmas Tour", eseguendo versioni inedite di brani dei Marillion e della carriera solista di Hogarth. Il 12 dicembre 2016 è stato pubblicato il DVD del concerto, con il titolo "Friends, Romans: H Natural with RanestRane".

Il 4 dicembre 2015 è stato pubblicato l'ultimo lavoro di RanestRane "A Space Odyssey – Part Two – H.A.L.", il secondo album della trilogia dedicata a "2001: Odissea nello spazio". La pubblicazione è stata seguita da un tour europeo che ha toccato Italia, Germania, Olanda e Danimarca.

In lavorazione la terza parte della trilogia che si intitolerà "Starchild".
