About Molly Vamp

“Molly Vamp hit the stage with what the group themselves described to us as a “sound that is very simply and direct, catchy and melodic.” Barring some apparent ties to the 1980s rock scene, the members of Molly Vamp left quite an impression on the audience and are bound to continue delivering their approach to crowds for the foreseeable future.” -Tammy Greene, Music Enthusiants “Kicking the night off with local bands like Molly Vamp, there was no doubt that this night would be filled with some serious contenders for the two open spots to perform at the Cathouse Live festival next month.” -Screamer Magazine The Simple approach to write music that has a catchy but melodic outlook on Molly Vamp's agenda. It was a match born in the depths of goth-rock when vocalist and guitarist Molly Vamp decided to make his one-man band (back then, using an “E-Mac” no less to write music himself) into a coupled effort. Angie, a.k.a. Willow, came into the picture and the two eventually became “a happily married metal couple.” With Billy Blade (Peppermint Creeps) on bass. The rest isn’t history just yet, it’s history in the making. Molly Vamp as a band name appeared somewhere between Molly Vamp’s (the man behind the guitar and vocals) exploration through other earlier bands like Alien Sex Machine and Draculove. With inspirations from Alice Cooper and Marilyn Manson, the desired visuals by this trio came forth through a pretty bad-ass gothic look that goes hand-in-hand with the music. Founded in Pomona CA, Molly Vamp began as a two piece band, experimenting on the (just jam feel) that later brought special guests on bass and eventually Molly's younger brother joined on bass for a brief time to perform at local talent shows, battle of the bands tournaments and showcasing their talent at the famous Whisky Ago go in Hollywood CA. "When it came to live gigs, we didn't know what to expect! our music was very raw and powerful for just Angie and I. When we had a chance to add a bass player our music had more depth and made more sense!" explains Molly. The band after numerous attempts to find the right guy, the band welcomed Billy Blade on bass in the fall of 2014. Billy Blade was the original member of Alien Sex Machine and had plans to start a new band called Draculove. Billy played with other bands Revlon Red, Peppermint Creeps among others. Truly inspired by late 70's and early 80's bands from Thin Lizzy, Kiss, Alice Cooper, Deep Purple, Black Sabbath, Scorpions, to Iron Maiden, Judas Priest and Dio, Molly Vamp's sound compliments and utilizes that formula of writing songs as a basic foundation. "I miss the good old way of catchy riffs with melodic structure and then I sprinkle my imagination with past experiences or fantasy like lyrics to create our sound" With their new release of their entire set list Molly Vamp embarks on a new journey! "Our album will be (available on itunes, Sound cloud, Spotify, Hepcat, and other retailers), the band will also work on several new music videos. "I'm very excited about our new album, we tried our best to capture our live sound on our recording, no loops, click tracks, or auto-tune, it's going to be raw but powerful", says Molly. “A typical show for us would be very loud and entertaining, especially when there are only three people [playing] . . . I think our target audience is targeted for all types of metal fans and goth people that like the darker look,” says Molly Vamp. Our message is very positive and sometimes direct . . . People say we sound like Iron Maiden, others like Rush; it’s quite an honor to receive compliments like that. Those bands are my heroes!” "We love to support other bands when we play shows", says Molly "I always look for bands that like to help one another and support each other, we take on any genre of music or any style and welcome them to be a part of our show" Molly adds "It's a very competitive field but I feel that by helping one another we can make this happen" says Molly. The trio is set on completing an image in line with their favorite bands. And when I say image, I mean the whole make-up shebang. “Around here there aren’t many goth-rock bands that wear blood, white paint and fancy eyeliner all year-round,” says drummer Willow. "There's times when we don't do all the make up and it still feels good just to play live" says Molly Vamp. If this will be the last year humanity will have on Earth, Willow has a surprisingly awesome outlook on the situation. “If the world ends there’s always another stage waiting for us on the other side of the moon.” By Ashley Bennett- I.E. Weekly
