About Rob Drabkin

The music of Rob Drabkin is spirited in nature, light from the heart, and rocking on the six-string acoustic. His 70’s fro is as recognizable as his ubiquitous grin, but it’s his music that has landed Rob national tours and sets at some of music’s most iconic venues. From the famous Red Rocks Amphitheatre in his hometown of Denver, CO, to tours in Doha, Qatar in the Middle East, Rob’s musicality has taken him and his guitar across the world. Whether he’s playing a solo acoustic set or a full band performance, the sincerity of his singer/songwriter background comes through every time. It’s no surprise that he and his band have become a force in the live music scene as they headline tours and support bands such as John Butler Trio, Trevor Hall, and The Wood Brothers. If you’re lucky enough to catch a live performance, the blend of rock, improv and singer-songwriter will have you dancing, smiling, and falling in love with Rob Drabkin one song at a time. Rob’s newly released single, “Someday,” has earned a spot on major international Spotify playlists, and has most recently been selected for KTCL's "Hometown for the Holidays” contest. This selection has earned Rob airplay on one of the most influential rock radio stations in the country. In just one month, the single has quickly accumulated over 500,000 spins from listeners around the world. “Someday” is about having the courage to choose love in every decision we make. ____ 2014-2015 were break out years for Rob. His self released studio album "Little Steps" peaked at #3 on Relix Magazine's radio charts with the title track single charting in FMQB AAA and Americana. This took him across the country to stations such as Music Choice, KBCO and Lightning 100. Rob then went on to self-release a series of music videos produced by acclaimed director Dillon Novak. The most recent video, "Stay (The Morning Light Fades), won best music video at ITSA Film Festival and became an official selection at The HolyShorts Film Festival and The Denver Film Festival. “Stay (The Morning Light Fades), was also named Best Music Video of 2015 by The International Songwriting Competition. In October 2015, Rob Drabkin independently released a 15-track live album titled Live Vol. II, which was recorded at The Bluebird Theater in Denver, CO. "On our first live album (2012) we covered Paul Simon's Graceland album in its entirety, and introduced a handful of new originals. It was a game changer for us,” said Rob. "That disc shifted the perception of my music. People recognized my ability to transition from a mellow solo singer-songwriter to a high-energy full band performer.” Rob’s life has not always been that of a full time touring and recording musician. In hopes of earning an MD/PhD,Rob attended Trinity University in San Antonio, TX, where he graduated with a degree in Biochemistry/Molecular Biology and Spanish. Music had been officially sidelined as a college hobby, until he took a life-changing trip to New York with his family. "My Dad played Jazz full time for 30 years before he got into medicine. On that trip, we re-connected with his old musician friends, and it was inspiring to see them giving their lives to music night after night for so many years. That was the night I dropped science and dedicated myself to music. I had always played guitar, but never sung a note until that night! After that, I moved in with my parents and spent every possibly hour singing and honing all of the songwriting skills that I could.” Having written enough songs for an open mic set, Rob stormed onto Denver’s music scene and set his career in motion. Since then, he has assembled a musical dream team. His powerhouse band features Brian McRae on drums, Bijoux Barbosa on bass, Eric Moon on keys, and Dave Preston on electric guitar. The music of Rob Drabkin is spirited in nature, light from the heart, and rocking on the six-string acoustic.
