Matt Mathis

Growing up in southeast Texas in a little town south of Houston, Matt Mathis was surrounded by country music almost on a daily basis. “I remember my grandpa would sit in his garage and listen to George Jones, it was his favorite singer of all time and that music always stuck with me.” Mathis said. “As I grew up and country was losing some of its appeal Garth came along and showed me what it was to be an ENTERTAINER. I was taken back by his presence on stage and the songs were all so amazing not like anything I had heard before.” Exclaimed Mathis with a smile. His first attempt at singing to a crowd of people came in his 5th grade music class where he sang “Shameless” while his classmates, parents, and grandparents looked on. “I was hooked from the very beginning…singing for a crowd of people and having them all watch and pay attention to you for that brief moment it was awesome.”

Mathis later on in life would sharpen his skills in bars and restaurants singing karaoke. “I started to get a name for myself just on that alone and by the time I got out of High School I knew what I wanted to do with my life.” Gravitating towards rock and heavy metal Mathis would jump around bands, some original and some cover bands, but country music was always in the back of his mind and he would hear from people that that was the avenue he needed to pursue. Cut to 2011 he decided to do just that and couldn’t be happier. Although defined as country his sound has his many influences all wrapped in one. “I never liked to be pigeon holed into one thing….been that way my entire life so yeah I want to be known as a country artist but when you live in Texas there is such a thing as “Texas Country” which is OUR way of doing country.” Mathis is in the process of recording his country debut album and the songs range from sad love songs to beer drinking sing alongs. So watch out for this rising star and if you get a chance to see him you won’t regret a minute of it!!!
