About Stackhouse

"Blues across the age gap" could have been the motto for Dutch blues band Stackhouse, because the age difference of almost 40 years gives this combo a fresh as well as a firm sound. The band’s name was taken from blues musician Houston Stackhouse, who himself influenced many other great bluesmen from the 40s/50s. These are also the roots of Stackhouse, and the debut album “Big Fish Boogie” is a collection of original songs that attempts to invoke the ambiance of that golden era! Young guns in the band are Machiel Meijers (vocals/harmonica) who also fronts the band, and Emiel van Pelt (guitar). Machiel's main influences Big Walter Horton and Little Walter Jacobs feature heavily in his originals. Quoting them rather than copying he is rapidly developing his own style. Experienced musicians Willem van Dullemen (guitar/vocals) and Bert Post (drums) go back as far as the 1981 North Sea Jazz festival where they played in the Hoochie Coochie Band. Fred van Unen is the middle man, connecting the band both through age and his fine double bass work. After all these years, van Dullemen is still one of the most tasteful blues guitar players in the country and meshes perfectly with the talented van Pelt. When it comes to artists the members accompanied, the list goes on: Homesick James, George “Wild Child” Butler, Eddie Boyd, Clarence “Gatemouth” Brown and Eddie C Campbell…..to name but a few. In 2010 the self titled debut EP was released, and picked up by both regional and national radio stations through both the Netherlands and Belgium. Recently released debut CD "Big Fish Boogie" has been given an excellent reception by "people in the know": great reviews in Belgian and Dutch specialist magazines, extensive airplay, including major national and regional radio shows and addition to US bluesspecialists catalogue "Bluebeat Music". Within a year after release, this culminated in Stackhouse being featured on the Belgian Rythm and Blues Festival in Peer. 2015 is looking good for the band! Stackhouse combines original songs with tastefully chosen covers and guarantees a succesful and swinging blues party. Stackhouse "Blues with a Feeling" old school blues, Chicago style.
