About Liset Alea
Singer, composer and guitarist Liset Alea, originally born in Havana, Cuba is a top-rate performer who’s vocals appear in many internationally famous compilations such as 6 Feet Under Soundtrack, Sunset On Ibiza, Ministry of Sound’s Chill-Out sessions 7, Fabric, Global Lounge Vol2, Womens World Voices Vol. 4,Paris By Night and many others.
Over the years, Alea has had the opportunity to appear in various stages world-wide including; The Jazz Café (London), L’Olympia (Paris), Magazzini Generale (Milano), Elysee Montmartre (Paris), Bowery Ballroom (New York) and Macarena (Miami) to name a few.
Liset's vocal style draws heavily upon myriad of musical influences. Her warm and sensual tones are usually accompanied by either fresh hand crafted beats or acoustically accented by her own guitar. Her narrative self-penned lyrics, either in Spanish, English or French, can be as playful and unexpected as they are heart-felt and profound.
While living in New York City, she studied Jazz at The New School Jazz Conservatory and she helped found a jazz-electronic band in 1998 named Etro Anime, who’s album See The Sound is released on V2 records and has a strong and dedicated fan base in the underground electronic scene.
She toured the world with French DJ Alex Kid. She worked closely together with hit producer Yoad Nevo (Sugababes, Bryan Adams, Jem), with whom she recorded her first Solo album (No Sleep, EMI 2005) at the prestigious Townhouse Studios in London. In France she toured with Cuban troubadour Raul Paz. And all throughout Europe she has written many songs for other artists such as Belgian Pop Idols Winner Katerine who won “best pop song of the year” at the TMF Awards (the Belgian equivalent of the Grammy’s).
Years of extensive classical education and experimentation with other styles and genres of music couldn’t drive out the Cuban and inherent spontaneity in Alea. ‘That need for rhythm is in my blood. I only have to hear a beat, and my whole body starts to move and I immediately hear a melody and a story behind it’.
Seven years and many European winters later, Liset Alea returns to Miami in search of things unfound such as new influences, a broader Latin Audience and some home made black beans and rice.
