About Sons of the Blues

Sons of The Blues is the offspring of John Phillips (lead Guitar) and Patrick Byrne (Vocals, Guitar and Stomp Box) and was born in Castlemaine, Victoria out of lifelong relationships with twelve bars.
Inspired by Artists such as Freddie King, Willie Dixon, Robert Johnson, Jimi Hendrix, Jimmy Page, Elmore James and Peter Green and nurtured by the Australian music of the 1960’s and 70’s John and Patrick were destined to forge this musical experiment.
John Phillips’ musical pedigree is long and distinguished and his collaborations read like a who’s who of Australian Music including: Goanna, Kikx, The Urban Principle and Za Za Biskit. His musical directions and output have been as unique as his unbelievable guitar and production skills.
Patrick Byrne in contrast has been mostly a solo artist with a passion for intense and stylised vocal interpretations of the Blues. His original compositions have a depth in simplicity and are craftily arranged.
Together they distil their musicality into a fine blend of the Blues from the subtle interplay of ‘Kind Hearted Woman’ to the full force of ‘Crossroads Blues’ and all shades between.
Sons of The Blues are very proud to have been a part of The Bendigo Blues and Roots Festival continuously since 2012 and feel privileged to have been embraced as members of the local Blues music family.
The sound that Sons of The Blues conjure will surprise with a frank, complex and full bodied quality that shares with the audience their core belief that: ‘The Music is everything!’
