About The 131ers
Founded in 2012, the band has grown from a two piece blue-veined American folk project to a full scale quadraphonic masterpiece. The solid foundation of friendship between founding members Kaleb Davies (vox/guitar) and Ryan Dawson (drums) permeates every note, eventually shepherding fellow members Chris Graue (bass) and Greg Wilmot (guitar) into the fold. In their own way, The 131ers have reclaimed and reinvented Americana. Their confession to short-term, present moment pleasures of beer and fellowship sparks a musical anomaly that clearly doesn’t belong in one of America’s many crumbling dystopias.
Modern yet vintage, the sonic pleadings flowing from Kaleb’s brain triggers unbridled nostalgia that seems to force you to look over your shoulder while simultaneously compelling your spirit forward to the unknown future. You find yourself in your best friend’s 1996 Honda Civic heading to some last minute warehouse party. Who knows. She might be there. The pulsating rhythm from Ryan hijacks your heart rate as she walks out of the room, lit cigarette and Pabst Blue Ribbon in hand. Like a dream you slowly gravitate towards her, each step propelled by Chris’ bass line. As her eyes meet yours, the velvet light violently refracts in her pale iris, as if choreographed and coxed by Greg’s gentle riffing. The 131ers tell a story that you’ve known all your life, yet bring in surprises that not even The Cure or The Shins could conjure.
