About Jamie Craig Music

In some ways, music doesn’t get much more tender and lyrical than in the hands of Jamie Craig and the Postcards. Coming from different corners of the world, Jamie, a south Florida native, and Pouya Pourtahmasbi and Reza Filsoofi, Iranian transplants, they merge their distant worlds into a sound that is all their own. An intimate setting of vocals, guitar, bass, and percussion, the trio’s soulful indie pop sound carries its weight with soaring vocals and innovative lead bass lines.

Jamie and Pouya’s paths crossed while studying music in college. It didn’t take long for a deep connection to form and an insatiable desire for expression to propel them on their musical journey. Reza joined the band shortly after, adding his unconventional percussion setup to take the Jamie Craig and the Postcards to a new level. Since the trio’s conception in June of 2013, they have already made a name for themselves in the South Florida music scene, having played at venues such as The Funky Biscuit, the Ritz Carlton in South Beach and Bal Harbour,
3rd & 3rd, Farmer’s Table Boca, Habor Beach Marriott, Saltwater Brewery, Bull Bar, Vintage Tap, Banana Boat, Square Grouper, Rumi Lounge, Swampgrass Willys, Bottega Wine Bar, Jeff Whyman Studio, The Backyard, and the Coral Gables Museum.

The trio’s appeal is far reaching since the three pull from an eclectic array of influences. Jamie says she was raised on classic rock, but her exploratory spirit has led her to many other styles that she incorporates into her music. “As a songwriter, I believe a good song is just that…a good song! A genre is just a label. Whether I’m listening or writing, I focus on clever lyrics, heartfelt melodies, and creative arrangements.” In conjunction with Pouya’s inclination to expand the common conception of what the bass can sound like, they create something colorful and deep. “Playing in this group has really been a journey of trial and error”, says Pouya. “When arranging the songs for a live scenario, I think about a sonic image for the song that to me feels original. Then I experiment with sounds and techniques and discover various possibilities on the bass to make that a reality.” Jamie Craig and the Postcards are great at taking what may seem like a shortcoming and using it to their advantage. “When I first started playing in the group I felt the need to fill the shoes of a rock drummer”, says Reza. “Instead I set up my percussion instruments in a way that I have the drum kit function, but I can also add some of my own style and techniques from my Iranian roots.”

There is a lot in store for Jamie Craig and the Postcards, with the release of Jamie Craig’s EP last summer and a full album in the works, they have an exciting road ahead of them. “We are playing live shows as much as we can and alway crafting new ideas, recording, and developing as a band.” Subscribe to their email list for announcements, performance dates, and updates on the new record.
