About Unknown Era

Unknown Era formed in 2014 by a ragtag group of musicians, socialites and party heads, all well known in the local Nottingham scene.

After playing a debut show at The Maze in their native Nottingham on New Years Eve 2014, the band was expanded into the current 9 piece with 4 vocalists, 2 guitarists, bass, drums, trumpet and trombone. They quickly built a strong reputation as one of Nottingham’s most popular bands with their high energy mix of Soul, Ska, Reggae, Gypsy, Punk, Rock, Funk and Dub.

In 2015 the band went on to receive rave reviews and built a impressive local fan base after gigs with Origin One, Gypsy Hill, Hallouminati, Bendigo, The Afterdark Movement and Chris Murray as well as festival sets on the same bills as General Levy, Asian Dub Foundation and Punjabi MC.

In November 2015 the band released their self titled debut EP. The official launch party at Rough Trade in Nottingham was sold out and so far all reviews of the EP have been very positive.

The band continued this momentum in 2016 with several more sold out Nottingham shows and in April and May a full UK tour which saw them win over audiences in London, Cardiff, Bristol, Manchester, Sheffield, Hull, Coventry, Leeds, Derby, Leicester and Kidderminster. The band’s stage show got more professional and the energy went through the roof as the band earned a reputation for their crazy outfits, mad stage dancing and audience interaction. 2016 saw the band play with the likes of Goldie Looking Chain, Counting Coins, The Aggrolites, Millie Manders, The Beat, Neville Staples and many more. Over the summer they've been smashing up some of the biggest UK festivals, including appearances at Boomtown Fair, Y-Not, Festival 8, Deerstock, Shanty Fest, Symmetry and Macmillan Fest as well as headline sets at Sneinton Festival and East Midlands Chilli Fest. New material has had an even more socially conscious and political edge bringing messages of equality and unity, which has seen the band play Nottingham Unite Festival and do acoustic sets at several protests as well as make appearances on Radio Nottingham and several other Midland’s based radio shows and have features in local magazines. The second half of 2016 will see the band headline The Hockley Hustle, support The Skints and The Slackers and headline their own mini festival, Misfit Fest in November. The band will also start working on new material with a debut album expected in late 2016 or early 2017.
