Kate Morrison

Kate Morrison is an award-winning vocalist, having began classical vocal training in the late 1980s. She studied and performed throughout high school and college, participating in regional and state competitions for classical vocal music, placing in the top 10 classical vocalists in the State of Oregon in 1991. She is the recipient of many awards throughout her years in vocal competition, and is a winner of the National Arion Award for Music.

Though Morrison has certainly proven her right to be called a jazz singer with the quality and content of her performances, her artistry extends even further as a genre-crossing musician, putting her own sense of phrasing and interpretation into her musical arrangements. Morrison's pure soprano voice not only possesses exceptional control, it draws out the very meaning of the words she sings. She never strays from taking sassy approaches or chances on standard songs and almost painstakingly avoids the predictable. Her vocal flexibility and interest in a variety of different musical styles makes for interesting and diverse shows, though for the most part, she stays true to her first loves of classical and jazz. In addition to her own recording and live performance projects, she has opened for Michael Kaeshammer, studied with Grammy-nominated jazz vocalist Karrin Allyson and most recently has performed with Gavin Bondy of Pink Martini.
