About The 92s

“We’ll buy a house and fade to bland/ I’ll make the same mistakes as my old man,” frontman Dan Durley sings on the opening track of The 92s’ debut full-length album, Television Fuzz. What follows is an album as pretty as it is noisy and jarring, displacing the lessons learned during adolescence with instinct and naivety. Television Fuzz studies the existential crisis that comes with graduation: from high school, from college, from one job to the next, but most importantly, from adolescence to adulthood. Dan Durley formed The 92s at the University of Illinois in Champaign after recording the EPs Don’t Bury Me and Void with his friend and producer Scot Stewart (Mike Golden & Friends, Good Old War). Comprised of Dan, Rob Marshall on lead guitar, Dylan Epling on bass and Matt Mullen on drums, The 92s slowly gained a following around the Champaign-Urbana area, playing at dive bars, fraternities and anywhere anyone would allow. They generated enough buzz to earn a slot at Pygmalion Festival in Champaign-Urbana in 2013, which featured headliners The Head and the Heart and Major Lazer, among others. They kept their eye on Chicago while at school, gaining a level of notoriety in the city after winning redeye’s 2012 Rock N Vote competition, leading to performances at Taste of Chicago and Hard Rock Café’s Lollapalooza After Party with Company of Thieves. The 92s’ had a big 2013, including heavy radio airplay of their single “Gone Away” on Central IL’s alternative station WPGU, along with a successful kickstarter campaign for the recording of Television Fuzz. They spent much of the summer recording with Scot Stewart again, live-tracking the majority of the album at Pieholden Suites in Chicago’s Ukrainian Village neighborhood. The 92s kicked off 2014 on a high note, playing to a packed house at House of Blues Chicago for Mike Golden & Friends’ CD release show. They won’t be slowing down. Touring, music videos and more will be coming from the band this year. The future looks bright. "The melodies are poppy. The production style is grungy. The musicianship is a real treat." - Q101 "The 2012 RedEye Rock ‘n’ Vote winners put newfound force and confidence into the already pristinely structured folk-rock tunes on its “Don’t Bury Me” EP" - Redeye on The 92s' Rock N Vote performance "…some of the most thoughtful songwriting I’ve heard from CU locals” – buzz Magazine, Champaign-Urbana’s alt-weekly Rock n roll with a little pop and a heavy dose of existential dread. the92sband@gmail.com
