Raven and Red

Raven and Red is a folk music duo formed by singer/songwriters Brittany Jones and Mitchell Lane. After meeting each other in 2009 at the University of North Carolina School of the Arts, Brittany and Mitchell created a musical partnership that has lasted over a decade. Their first EP, Live In The Studio (2014), features a selection of the group’s most requested country, folk, and bluegrass songs. In 2015, the duo recorded Celtic Collection, a limited-run CD release featuring traditional and contemporary Irish, Scottish, and Trans-Atlantic folk songs and fiddle tunes. No matter the genre of music, Raven and Red aspires to reach audiences with “stories wrapped in beautiful, acoustic songs,” and “the disarming honesty they bring to their music” (Lust for Life Magazine). Raven and Red has been compared to such legendary artists as the Eagles, The Stone Poneys, The Byrds, Jim Croce, and John Denver.

Their 2018 album, We Rise Up, expands upon Raven and Red’s versatility, showcasing their work as songwriters for the first time. The album has been enthusiastically applauded as “one of the best debut country albums of the year,” “a perfect bridge between tradition and modernity,” and an “outstanding debut with razor-sharp and sometimes goosebumps-inducing singing.” We Rise Up was on the ballot of the 61st Grammy Awards in 10 categories, including Best Folk Album, Best American Roots/Song Performance, and Best New Artist. The album received radio play in over 17 countries across Europe, Asia, North America and Australia. The album’s title track, “We Rise Up,” reached #1 on the Top 50 Contemporary Country Songs Chart and remained on top for 10 consecutive weeks.

Raven and Red has traveled and performed at venues and festivals across the U.S., including their most recent virtual performance for the UMGF’s annual Martin Guitar Festival in Nazareth, PA. In 2018, Raven and Red headlined the annual LandFest in the Mountains in Hiawassee, GA, hosted by Grammy Award winners Jamie Dailey & Darrin Vincent (Dailey & Vincent). The duo has opened for Country Music Legend Connie Smith, multi award-winning bluegrass groups Russell Moore & IIIrd Tyme Out and the Claire Lynch Band, as well as the Celtic rock/Irish pop group, Screaming Orphans. Prior to the COVID-19 pandemic, Raven and Red was the house band for several years at the Hilton Hotel in Downtown Nashville. The duo now lives and works in the New York City area.
