About My Mother The Carjacker

When the band first started jamming in 2009, genre was thrown out the window and all that was focused on was letting their inner energies flow with each other and projecting the end result to the audience. MMCJ’s follow-through in creating music has always been a natural one. It's all about having fun.

The band’s June 2012 self-titled debut EP, produced by Brody Mudryk (Conscience, The X Presidents) saw the band embark on a handful of mini-tours in Canada, produce 2 music videos, and a slew of local shows. Through their efforts, the band has grown a diverse following with their quirky brand of alternative punk rock. If you can even call it that...

After a successful Kickstarter campaign in Fall 2013, the band took the funding to undergo the creation of their upcoming full length release. "...or of Something Else" is a self-produced, 12 song album that sees the band unrestrained and truly showing their creative breadth at this point in their career. The ecletic basket of music, released August 19 2014, was followed by a successful Western Canada tour in support of the album.

Following the tour, the band signed on with Rednyne Productions and began planning the production of 3 subsequent EPs. 2015 sees the band's individual schedules change drastically, but this has not halted the band's intended prolificy as they power on at any cost. The band released "...And Some Other Things", a 2-song B-side follow up EP, on July 31st, with a 2nd EP already near completion. The 2 songs help exemplify the band's diversity, showcasing their approach to conventional songwriting as well as quirky experimentation.

Early 2016 saw the departure of the core founding member, Liam Worthington, so he could focus on his own responsibilities. "Come", the 2nd EP in the series and last to include Worthington, is to be released Summer 2016. Taking Worthington's place is Matt Noble (ex-Not A Chew Toy, currently with Stephanie Standerwick, etc). February 2016 also saw the band taking home the "Best Avant-Garde Artist" award at the first annual WHAMMY awards in Vancouver, with drummer Allan Heppner also winning "Best Illustrative Artist" and being nominated for "Best Drummer".

The band continues to write relentlessly and play shows to broader audiences. In vigils of determination and 2 very different EPs still to come, the band aims to market their art to as many different audiences willing to listen as possible. They have also been in production for a music video for a song off of "...And Some Other Things", have been demo'ing for future releases, and have been part of the production of a new web series in which they will be featured as the house band.
