About Tomo Jacobson

Tomo Jacobson is a Polish-born double bass player based in Copenhagen, Denmark. He graduated with a master degree from the prestigious Rytmisk Musikkonservatorium in Copenhagen. He has also been studying musicology at the University of Warsaw, Poland. He focuses his efforts on free improv and other creative musics. He writes and performs his own original music with several of his own projects: MOONBOW, IL SOGNO, FREE SPIRITUAL and others. Tomo has been very fortunate to perform with the greats like John Tchicai, Andrew D'Angelo, Lotte Anker, Adam Rudolph, Rasul Siddik, P.O. Jørgens, Frank Gratkowski, Fred Lonberg-Holm, Sun Araw, Jacob Anderskov, Kresten Osgood, Hugh Steinmetz, Søren Kjaergaard, Torben Snekkested, Jesper Zeuthen, Maria Laurette Friis, Laura Toxvaerd, Anders Banke, Nils Davidsen, Maher Mahmoud, Nicolai Munch-Hansen, Peter Bruun, and many others. Tomo played at numerous festivals like Copenhagen Jazz Festival, Vinterjazz, Roskilde Festival in Denmark, Festa dell'Opera in Italy, Milhões de Festa in Portugal, Audio Art Festival in Poland, Creepy Teepee Festival in Czech Republic, as well as the ones he himself founded, or co-founded, Freedom Music Festival and Mooment Festival. He has performed in Denmark, Sweden, Germany, Poland, Italy, Cuba, Belgium, Czech Republic, Portugal, Los Angeles and New York. In February 2016 Tomo was a resident artist for 5 weeks at 5e, the highly acclaimed venue of the greatest Danish label for creative musics, ILK. Tomo Jacobson is also a receiver of various grants. He has received support from the renowned Idella Fondation, DJBFA, DMF, DAF, Glashandler Johan Franz Ronges Fond, and JazzDanmark. In 2014 he received a full scholarship for 8 months long study trip to Los Angeles and New York City, where he was working on new music for his album and where he started new collaborations. Since 2015 together with filmmaker Malwa Grabowska aka Hipermania, Tomo has been working on a documentary film about the legendary double bass player from New York William Parker.
