About Gal Gun

Shooting for understated complexity topped off by instantly accessible melodies, Gal Gun stands out from the crowded Chicago garage-rock scene. Drawing heavy influences from 90's behemoths like Weezer and Blur while balancing a softer sound influenced by Belle & Sebastianand The Shins, their sound is equal parts familiar and refreshing. The band's music and lyrics hope to strike a chord between triumph and heartbreak. Songs like "Heartbleed" obscure their more depressing nature with a slick power pop sheen. Gal Gun hopes to emulate Mancunian bands of the 80's in their ability to hide a world-weary pessimism amidst a full pop stride and have fun doing it.

Despite beginnings as cliché as four friends jamming together in a basement, Gal Gun is poisedto make it's mark on the Chicago music scene. For members Colin Burns (Guitar/Vox), John O'Brien (Guitar), Thomas O'Brien (Bass) and Anthony Vaccaro (Drums), Gal Gun is where they've comfortably landed after years of floating through various bands in the city.

Gal Gun's first offering, "Special Music of Emotion," was written and recorded across basementsand bedrooms throughout Chicago and its suburbs. The personal nature of the recordings is evident in their mid-fi DIY imperfections. The album is set to release in January, 2018 via local cassette label Dumpster Tapes.

Chicago Tribune - " 'Heartbleed,' the first single from the group's 'seminal debut album, coming later,' is three and a half minutes of near-perfection. You might even feel a little confused once the track ends, possibly thinking they've heard the song in some other capacity years and years before. It's intelligently crafted pop with mass appeal,"

Radio One Chicago - "...wonderfully catchy…" "bubblegum for your ears,"

The Deli Magazine - "...pure power pop and a great deal of fun,
