Deco Ensemble

Established in 2013, the Deco Ensemble has been described as an ‘exceptional’ ensemble ‘of the highest calibre’, with a ‘strong and highly individual voice’. Their adventurous programming and virtuoso performances display extraordinary breadth and creativity. They perform an eclectic and colourful combination of classical masterpieces and little-known gems. Rich in poignant harmonies, bold rhythms and elaborate ornamentations, their works range from Prokofiev to the avant-garde and come from all over the world. This exuberant and glamorous repertoire includes works by composers such as Gustavo Beytelmann, Yannis Constantinidis, Frédéric Devreese, Ramiro Gallo, Graham Lynch, Astor Piazzolla, Sergei Prokofiev, Maurice Ravel and Anibal Troilo. They also collaborate with many of the world’s most promising and intriguing composers and performers, and write their own arrangements. Deco Ensemble’s adventurous approach has its origins in Astor Piazzolla’s music. In the 1960s Piazzolla formed his ensemble and laid down the foundations of tango nuevo writing. The members of Deco Ensemble have combined their spirit of fearless exploration to re-imagine the Tango Nuevo Quintet, combining classical, jazz and traditional influences. The ensemble has toured Europe extensively. Highlights from last season included sold-out performances in London, Manchester, Glasgow, Brighton, York, Bristol, Brussels, Bratislava, Strasbourg, Rome and Poland, including appearances at Wigmore Hall, Colston Hall, Norfolk and Norwich festival. Next season’s engagements include recitals at the Purcell Room, Royal Albert Hall, the Harwich and Oundle Festivals, and are taking the ensemble as far as Azerbaijan.
