Yayoi Okaniwa (Japan) to perform at the Ladino Festival!
During her musical studies, singer-performer Yayoi Okaniwa became acquainted with Jewish culture and Ladino songs, as well as recorded her debut recording of Sephardic music ( and the one and only of its kind ever made in Japan), in turn, gained her wide exposure on social media including the Japanese radio and television.
Three years ago, she moved to Israel to further pursue her studies of the Ladino culture and language at Bar Ilan University.
She met Gilad Chatsav, who himself is of Spanish origin, and together they developed an exciting programme which combines traditional Ladino songs with jazz arrangements, and which they already performed on a tour to Japan in 2015.
This year, their project was selected for the 4th Ladino Festival (in honour of former President Itzhak Navon) which will take place at the Habima Theatre in Tel Aviv
Special guests will appear at the performance, who are leading musicians in world music, such as Mumin Sesler (Turkey) on kanun, Eyal Sela (from the Idan Raichel Project) on wind instruments & Assaf Rabi - Bass.
Hope to see many of you on this special occasion on January 21, 2017@ 20:00
