Jakals

A Boston-based alternative rock band, Jakals’ visceral, soul-aching vocals and melodic, driving instrumentals create a tempestuous sound that rips open the confines of contemporary rock music. Within one year of their formation, Jakals have released their debut album Keep Mother Sane, toured up and down the East Coast with performances at notable venues such as Fete Music Hall, Arlene’s Grocery, and The Monkey House, received airplay on WZLX 100.7’s Boston Emissions and other notable stations, and have become a widely recognized presence in Boston’s music scene. The Deli Magazine declared Keep Mother Sane “a profound and melancholic portrait of the modern world with a depth and profundity rarely seen,” subsequently nominating the band for the Deli’s Best Emerging Artist in New England competition, which they won.

Jakals are unrestrained, exploring the internal turmoil that results from the harrowing experience of human existence. With dynamic songs as complex as the emotions and personal struggles they grapple with, Jakals have been praised for achieving “a perfect stride between the personal openness of singer/songwriters and the more fully realized trappings of a traditional rock ensemble” (Crossfader Magazine). On Keep Mother Sane, released May 2017, Jakals question what it means to be sane in a society that doesn't seem to be sane itself. They lay bare a reality of hollow communication, strained interactions, profound loneliness, and an intense desire to be understood.
