About Wooden Shields
Before they become the heavy blues rock trio "Wooden Shields",
Rémi Bottriaux (drums) and Morgan Briand (guitar, sing) met on the bench of a design studio in Paris; At the very first day of this new job for both of them, rock n' roll seemed to be the best ice breaker!
Sharing rock and blues music influences, (Jr Kimbrough, R.L Burnside, Left Lane Cruiser, Black Sabbath…) they started jamming and recording covers for fun, both guitar players at this time. They quickly pushed boundaries further, switching one of the guitar for a drum set and kept on playing, as self taught they've always been into music.
From cheap rehearsals they built a set-list of covers, enriched by their first 4 track demo. "Old Man" and "She's Gone", are finely crafted examples of roots-chewing blues; melody and groove mesh together to create something raw and spirited, while making a lot of noise in the process. "Wooden Shields" was created.
Somewhere between the early rough days of the Black Keys, and the Rolling Stones.
With a poised, soulful croon, the mercenaries preach each of their battle songs as if it is their last. Field is mostly ruined after every show, scars and bruises are the whitenesses of this wild energy, spontaneously thrown in a fuzzy feedback right in the face of the audience.
Get prepared that wooden shields comes up to hit harder and louder in the next coming days, as they should turn soon into a trio with the come of Benjamin Ménégale as a bass player…
Stay tuned!
