About House of Wolves

House of Wolves is the solo music project of Los Angeles native Rey Villalobos, the band name taken from the literal translation of his family name. Villalobos classically trained on piano, falling in love with the Chopin nocturnes early on and whose phrasing permeates his songwriting. Starting out as a drummer and then emerging as the singer and frontman for indie rock band The Coral Sea, Villalobos next started House of Wolves as a way to access his more mellow acoustic-driven folk compositions. Personified by delicate arrangements, the music is an intimate portrait of hauntingly sentimental and unreserved songs echoing from another era.

“imagine a duet Nick Cave / Mazzy Star” - Les inRocks

“so strikingly magnetic is down to the exhaustive power that sits at the heart of House Of Wolves” - Gold Flake Paint

The wind that animates the music of Rey Villalobos seems to come from another time. - Liberation

“House of Wolves mysterious beauty and pure honesty is impossible to dislike" - No Fear of Pop

Rey Villalobos shows that it only takes one guitar and one person to produce some of the most beautiful music.“- The 405

“falsettos could carry similarities to Ariel Pink or Devendra Banhart, but he softens each lyric more than they do, turning a pop ballad into a hopeful Keaton Henson song.” - Consequence of Sound

“songs that crawl up your spine and stay on your mind for days afterward. It’s atmosphere with a heavy center due to Rey Villalobos’ nearly in-tears vocals” - iTunes Indie spotlight newsletter

“The songwriting is very strong, cinematic even. Rey has a knack for mise-en-scène - one that’s romantic and shot like a French New Wave Film.” - YVYNYL
